Mrs. Kirsten Karlan is the strings instrumental teacher for Frenchtown, Booth
Hill, and Jane Ryan Elementary Schools. After attending Moravian College,
she graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from
Western Connecticut State University. Mrs. Karlan has also received Suzuki
teacher training for Violin Books One and Two from Allen Lieb and Linda Fiore
at The Hartt School of Music Suzuki Institute. She comes to us from Greens
Farms Academy, where she was the Orchestra Director, and from Westport and
Ridgefield Public Schools where she taught part-time as a strings
specialist. Mrs. Karlan performs frequently, as a violinist, with
the American Chamber Orchestra of Fairfield County under the direction of
Maestro Christopher Hisey. She is looking forward to continuing her graduate
studies.
This year in Trumbull I wish to continue to build the highest quality string
program with our returning string students and our new beginners! The
foundation of instruction will be based on the learning of proper playing
technique and solid musicianship skills. Our classes will be rich
experiences filled with ear training, sight singing, rhythmic exercises, and
exercises for the production of good tone! The students will learn to play
familiar melodies and new music. The string students will be motivated,
challenged, and taught with enthusiasm! We will share the love of
string music at the Winter and Spring concerts!
