One of the most important skills that you will develop in Drawing I has nothing to do with your ability to draw or shade. It has to do with your ability to perceive. There is a difference between looking at and seeing something. My first Drawing class in college, my professor brought in an old wooden crate and we spent the whole semester, 8 hours of class time a week, drawing that crate. I developed and trained my "eye" to look and to see what was in front of me as it really was and not what I thought it looked like in my mind's eye.
