Finding a Counselor

The following agencies provide counseling services for adolescents and youth up to age 18.  Those listed may offer low cost services or services on a sliding scale in addition to accepting various insurance plans.

Other resources may be found by contacting your insurance company or pediatrician for a referral.  You may also call Infoline at 2-1-1 or search their database at www.infoline.org under "Mental Health Care."  To see if your town offers counseling services and whether they are free to residents, check out the Youth Service Bureaus tab on this website.  Finally, many public as well as private agencies and counselors can be found in the yellow pages of your local phone book under the following headings:  “Marriage, Family, Child & Individual Counselors”; “Mental Health Information & Treatment Centers, Counselors”; “Physicians & Surgeons: Psychiatry”; “Psychologists”; “Psychotherapists”; and “Social Workers.”
