True Colors

True Colors is a Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) at Grasso that helps support, provide safety, and instill confidence in students who are struggling with their identity as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) youth.  The club provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, and work to end homophobia.  It is designed to build a community at Grasso and lessen the isolation LGBTQ students might experience.  True Colors welcomes all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.  The advisors for the club are Mr. Burns and Mrs. Clement.

Club News

True Colors will meet on the following Thursdays during 7th period in the Hospitality Conference Room:  January 8 (this meeting will be in Room 211), February 26, March 19, April 2, May 21, and June 4.

Our jeans fundraiser will take place on the first Friday of every month (with a few exceptions).  Pay $1 when you get to school and you can wear your jeans for the day.  All other uniform policies apply.  For those shops where jeans are not part of the uniform, participation is at the discretion of the shop instructor.  The dates the fundraiser will take place are January 16 (the second Friday), February 6, March 6, April 9 (a Thursday), May 1, and June 5.

Resources

More information and resources for LGBTQ youth can be found by visiting the True Colors, Inc. website at www.ourtruecolors.org.  This organization, after which the GSA at Grasso is named, is the Sexual Minority Youth and Family Services agency for Connecticut.

True Colors puts out a resource guide during its conference each year.  It lists youth and parent groups, resources on the state and national level, tool kits, fact sheets, information on forming a GSA, information on LGBTI youth rights, cultural competency tools, definitions and historical information, and a comprehensive bibliography.  The 2008-09 Resource Guide can be accessed through the following link:  http://www.ourtruecolors.org/cfs/TC15/TC15ResourceGuide.pdf.
