About Mrs. Holmes:
Mrs. Holmes is a certified teacher of Science in Connecticut for grades
7-12. She has had 38 years of experience working with Milford's young teens
in Grades 7 and 8.
A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, she holds a Master of
Science Degree in Biology and a Professional Studies Degree in
Administration and Supervision. An avid gardener, Mrs. Holmes also earned a
certificate in Horticulture from Mattatuck Community College.
For several years she has been a Science Portfolio scorer for the former
state BEST process, and now mentors beginning teachers through the new TEAM
program. In 2003, Mrs. Holmes received National Board Certification in
Science, and from 2006 through 2008 taught science education to graduate
students as an Adjunct Professor in the MAT program at Quinnipiac University.
Named 2010-11 Milford Teacher of the Year, she was also selected by the state
as one of the fifteen semifinalists for the CT Teacher of the Year. Mrs.
Holmes received the 2011 Excellence in Middle School Science Teaching Award
from the CT Science Teachers Association.
At Harborside Middle School, she currently teaches Grade 8 Science and is the
Team Leader for the 8 Blue Team.
The Grade 8 Science curriculum includes many topics through four main
fields of study: Physics, Astronomy, Science and Technology, and Basic
Science Skills. Each week students are challenged by activities or
laboratory experiments in the Grade 8 Blue Team Science room!
