Welcome to Harborside Middle School. Our school consists of grades six, seven, and eight and is located in the center of a traditionally quaint old New England style village in Milford, Connecticut. It is uniquely situated in that it feeds into both of the Milford High Schools: Jonathan Law and Foran High respectively. The goal of the Harborside staff is to help our students understand their world and to encourage cooperation, responsibility and mutual respect.

HMS News 5.21.12

Good Afternoon Harborside Families,

While the school year is winding down, I want to ask you to remind your children that school, and learning, continue through the end of the school year. Like we used to say when I was teaching Ancient History; “Rome doesn’t fall until June 20th”!

Currently, 230 of our students have a book that is overdue to the Media Center. I have mixed emotions about this: on one hand, I am pleased so many of our students are reading; on the other hand, apparently we have done a poor job in teaching kids how to read date stamps. If your child is one of the elite 230, please be on the lookout for a notice this week. There is a place on the bottom for a parent signature. Please have your child return the book or money, and the signed note ASAP.

We are wrapping up the first year of our advisory program and would like some feedback from you. Please complete the online survey by the end of this week. The link is below and it can also be found on our website. http://survey.milforded.org:9191/UltimateSurvey/Surveys/TakeSurvey.aspx?surveyid=1137

For 8th grade parents, dinner dance forms and money are past due. I understand how a child might ‘forget’ to get a poor test grade signed, but I am confused by those who are late with this. That being said, as your child is in 8th grade, and would likely forget their teeth if they weren’t attached, the PTO had agreed to continue to accept the forms through this week. Please get them in ASAP as we have to pay the restaurant, create table groups etc.

5th- 6th grade Orientation is this Wednesday, May 23rd at 6:30. While I hope you and your child can make it, it is not necessary that your child miss their baseball game, or any other previously scheduled event to attend this. I met with the 5th graders last week and we will give tours over the summer. Same goes for the parents.

Upcoming Events:

May 23rd: 5th-6th grade Orientation, 6:30
May 28th: No School, Memorial day
May 29th: PTO meeting, 6:00
May 30: Early dismissal, 12:30 for Staff Development
May 30th: Chorus Concert, 6:30 at Foran

Thanks, as always, for your support and have a great week and enjoy the upcoming long weekend.

Gordon
