What do I need to bring with me to class each day?

Please bring the following items to class with you every day: your agenda,
your language arts binder, a pen, a pencil, a colored pen or pencil for
correcting/editing, and a pleasure reading book.

I forgot to write my homework in my agenda! What do I do?

If you're still in school when you realize it, just stop in my classroom and
check my homework board. If you're already home, you can check my website or
call a friend who is in your language arts class.

What is your homework policy?

In class on time and completed neatly: 100%. Late, incomplete, or messy:
50%. Extremely late or not handed in: 0%. If you do not have your homework
in class the day it is due, you will receive a 0. (No going to lockers!)
However, if you bring in your homework later that day or the next day and
REMEMBER TO SHOW IT TO ME, your 0 will change to half credit (50%). Students
who are absent will have the opportunity to make up the homework assigned
during their absence for full credit.

I have a paper due, and my computer/printer is not working! What do I do?

There are a number of options available to you.
If you are having printer problems, you may bring in a flash/USB drive
with your paper on it, or you may email it to yourself as an attachment.
(Please be sure your paper is actually saved on the flash drive;
have someone from home help you check to ensure it is. If you email it,
be sure you know the email address and password so you can log into
the email at school to retrieve the paper.) Go to the media center at the
beginning of a.m. homeroom and print out your paper. If you can't use a
flash drive, or don't have access to an email account, have someone
from home email it to me as an attachment - not copied and pasted into
an email. My email address is jgrib@trumbullps.org. If you are having
both computer and printer problems, you may always neatly hand-write
your paper on lined paper, in blue or black ink, skipping every other line.
Remember, computer/printer problems can happen at any time, so it's always
a good idea to keep a backup copy of your paper on a flash drive,
and/or print out a copy of each draft of your paper to keep at home.
I will ALWAYS accept a neatly handwritten paper, so computer/printer
problems are not acceptable excuses for late papers.

How can I have a successful year in your language arts class?

Just follow these suggestions:
1) Always come to class prepared (binder, writing utensils, glasses, if you
wear them, etc.) and ready to learn.
2)Pay attention in class, ask questions and/or stay for extra help if you
have any difficulty or just want to be sure you understand something.
3)Don't rush through your homework.
4)Study for tests and quizzes.

(Parents) How can I help my child be successful?

Check your child's agenda frequently. Your child's agenda is used as a
communication tool between home and school; teachers may write a note in the
agenda from time to time. Your child should be copying homework assignments
in his or her agenda every day. Many teacher web pages also have homework
information. Help your child keep his or her binders organized, and
replenish supplies (paper, pens/pencils) when needed. Set aside time each
day/evening at home for homework/study time. Please call or write a note if
you have any questions or concerns for me.

How do I order Scholastic books?

Scholastic book flyers (TAB and Arrow) are handed out monthly from October to
May. If you would like to order one or more books, fill out the order
form(s), and be sure to put your full name at the top of the order form.
Include a check made out to
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB for the exact amount. Put the order form and check in an
envelope with your full name written on the front of the envelope. If you are
ordering from both TAB and Arrow, you may combine your payment in one check.
Please be sure to total your order correctly, and please be sure the check is
made out to SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUBS.
