What's going on? Here's a little info about me.
This is my 14th year here at Hillcrest, and after teaching one year in grade
8 and 9 years in 7th grade, this is my 4th year teaching 6th graders. I
love this curriculum! There are lots of hands on activities related to the
earth and physical sciences. This suits me well, as I have an undergraduate
degree in Earth Science from The Pennsylvania State University (WE
ARE......PENN STATE!!!) and a Masters in Teaching from Sacred Heart
University. I also worked for two years as a field scientist and
hydrogeologist in Manchester, Connecticut (very simply
this means I studied soil and water to prevent and control pollution). I
bring this experience into the classroom so that students see that what they
will be learning is of value and has real life application.
The science program, which we use here at Hillcrest, is an intensive lab
oriented course based on hands-on learning. The focus of this course is
scientific inquiry where students construct their own knowledge and
understanding from their experiences. It is my intent to design and
implement lessons that promote learning through the individual learning
styles of my students. Every student learns in their own unique way, and
learning throughout the classroom will be enhanced as these learning styles
are shared within the daily lessons and activities that take place.
