Are my child's sound substitutions developmentally appropriate for his/her age?

Just like any other area of development, each child develops their speech
skills at their own rate. Some children never use any sound substitutions,
however articulation errors are common among young children. Accurate
production of speech sounds usually occurs by the time your child is eight
years old. A good guideline to use is to ask yourself if your child's speech
is understandable to an unfamiliar listener at least 80% of the time. For a
copy of specific developmental guidelines for each sound, please contact me by
phone or e-mail.
