I am married with 2 children and live here in Columbia. My husband is a
builder who enjoys his work. My son Christopher is a senior in high school
this year and my daughter Kelsi has just started high school. We also
have 2 dogs named Harley and Gizmo. We are soon adding 2 goats to our family
named Fancy and Star.
I began taking Spanish classes here at Porter and continued taking classes
throughout high school and college. During my junior year in college, I had
the opportunity to study in Salamanca, Spain for a semester. It was a
wonderful experience that increased my love for the language, culture,
people and all that has to do with the Spanish language.
We have recently began camping and have enjoyed traveling through New
England. We spent a week in Pennsylvania this summer while Christopher hiked
over a 100 miles in New Mexico. We look forward to traveling to as many states
as we can in our camper to see the sites of our country.
Prior to teaching in Columbia, I taught English as a Second Language for 10
years in Norwich. I enjoyed working with children from many countries such
as Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Poland, China and
Vietnam. It was a challenging position, but very rewarding.
In the summer of 2006,I was finally able to show my family the beauty of
traveling to a foreign country. We spent 5 days in Cancun, Mexico and had a
wonderful time. We explore Tulum and Xel-Ha as well as enjoying the people,
food and culture that Mexico has to offer. It was too short of a trip and we
hope to return soon.
To create an environment that is friendly and "safe" for students to speak
Spanish
To promote creativity while learning a new language
To provide opportunities for students to explore the culture of other
countries
