About The Teacher

I have been teaching at Porter School for ten years since graduating from 
the University of Connecticut with my Bachelor's and Master's degrees.  When 
I am not teaching science I spend my time riding, competing, and taking care 
of my horses, and giving riding lessons to other horses and riders.  I also enjoy 
hiking, running, cheering on the Red Sox, yoga, playing piano, and baking!

Mission For The Class

Welcome to fifth grade science!  This year will provide fun and 
challenging opportunities for skill developing and strengthening in a 
variety of areas.  Over the course of the school year, the students will 
explore four main units which align with the Connecticut state curriculum 
content standards: Human Senses and the brain, Sound and Light, Earth, Moon, and Sun, and Vision 
Enhancing Tools. Exploration of these units will take place through a balanced approach of inquiry 
based, hands-on, student centered activities and skill building.  I am looking forward to a 
very productive and fun year of fifth grade science!
