Fundations - we will start unit 4 which focuses on tapping out and spelling CVC words. Your child can practice at home by going to this site CVC Puzzles.

Math - we will continue working on Unit 4. This week we will work on building sets using the 10's Frame and comparing numbers. Your child can practice this at home by playing Ten Frame. We have also been working on recognizing numerals 1-20 and on counting up to 100 - I can count to 100. Please continue to practice these skills at home.

For Unit 5 I need new playdough. If you could make us a batch it would be very helpful. You can find the Recipe here.

Shared Reading - We will read The Best Bug Parade. We will be focusing on identifying and understanding literary devices - characters, setting, how a story makes you feel? and how does the story end?.

Writer's Workshop - we will work on writing about things that mean something to them, making personal connections. This is giving us practice with stretching out the sounds in words and writing them down.

Many children have completed our 26 required Sight Word Challenge.

If you would like to donate supplies, we could use paper towels, hand soap and we can always use tissues.

Please remember to send your child to school with a warm jacket. We will continue to go outside for Playground, weather permitting...

Dates to remember:

February 21-24 - Winter Break
April 3, 4 and 5 - Parent/Teacher Conferences - 1:15 dismissal
April 6 - Good Friday - No School
April 16-20 - Spring Break

Please remember, toys (webkins, silly bands, stuffed animals, etc...) are not allowed at JFK. Mr. Smyth has reminded all teachers of this policy. If your child has something to share that pertains to our unit of study, they are welcome to bring it in.

Bathroom: Please remind your child that they are able to use the bathroom when ever they need to. Please remind them to just let me know. This will hopefully help avoid accidents.

Daily attendance records are kept at school. Please call the office before school begins if your child will not be in 783-3568. Upon return, a note must be provided. Please state the reason for the absence.

To reinforce what we will be learning in school, please help your child practice cutting paper and writing his or her name in upper and lower case letters.
