How can I find out if school is cancelled?
Log on to the Internet to site http://www.milforded.org.
or
Call the Milford Board of Ed at 203-783-3400 for a recorded message after 6:15am.
Listen to your local radio stations (WICC, WEZN, WAVZ, and WPLR) and/or
television newscasts (WTNH-TV, WVIT-TV, or Channel 12 News).
Please avoid calling the school office for school closing information. We
prefer you use this as a last resort as we only have two phone lines entering
the school and in case of emergency, we try to keep these lines open.
What time does school start if there is a delayed opening?
John F. Kennedy School will begin at 10:35am. However, parents should
continue to check the website or listen to announcements as weather
conditions may require that a delay be changed to a full cancellation. All
Milford Public Schools will have a 90 minute delayed opening.
What time does school end if there is an early dismissal?
John F. Kennedy School will dismiss at 1:35pm. When afternoon sessions are
to be canceled, please check the website or listen to the stations listed
above.
What should I do if my child is being dismissed in a different way than usual?
My child is going home to a classmate's house which requires his/her to be
dismissed a different way than usual. What should I do? A note must be
brought to school with your child stating that you have given your
permission for him/her to go home by alternate means. If an emergency
occurs during the day that requires you to make other plans for your child,
you may call the school office and we will pass the information on to your
child as well as their teacher.
Do I have to report my child's absence?
All absences must be phoned into the main office as soon as possible on the
day of the absence. When your child returns back to school following an
absence, they must bring in a note explaining the nature of the absence. If
your child is under the care of your doctor, please bring in a note from
the doctor.
Can I request that homework be sent home to my child when they are ill?
Homework pick-up can be arranged through the main office. We ask that you
request work after two days absent. When you are calling in your child absent,
please let me know at that time if you are requesting homework. You can pick
it up at the end of the day or ask another student to bring it home.
If I have a question about my child's lunch account, who do I speak with?
The person in charge of our lunchroom accounts is Sue Scucci. She can be
reached by dialing 203-783-3607. Mrs. Scucci can give you a computerized
printout of your child's account activity if you so desire.
My child has an appointment during the school day - What is the procedure?
My child has a dentist/doctor appointment in the middle of the school day,
how do I go about getting them dismissed early? If at all possible please
have your child bring a note to school stating that they will be dismissed
early. You must come to the main office to pick up your child and sign them
out of school. Please do not go directly to your child's classroom, as this
is a disruption for the rest of the class.
My child forgot their homework, lunch etc. at home. What is the procedure?
My child forgot their homework, lunch etc. at home and I need to bring it to
the school. Can I go directly to the classroom and drop it off?
No. All forgotten items must be left in the main office. We will notify your
child that they have a delivery in the main office.
When volunteering at or visiting the school, what procedure should I follow?
I have signed up to volunteer for an activity in my child's classroom. What
procedure should I follow when I arrive at the school?
You must sign in at the main office and receive a visitor's pass. Don't
forget to sign out in the main office when you leave.
Can I send in food to celebrate my child’s birthday, or for holiday parties?
JFK has a “no food” policy for birthday celebrations and holidays. We encourage parents who want
to celebrate their child’s birthday at school to find other ways to do so. Some examples:
▪Pass out special pencils, erasers, etc… ▪Donate a book to the class
▪Parent reads a story to the class ▪ Parent does a craft with the class
▪Non-food goody bags ▪Child shares a favorite game with the class
These are some suggestions: You can think of other creative ways to celebrate birthdays—please
just check with your child’s teacher in advance. Classroom teachers will plan appropriate holiday
celebrations and learning activities.
