Classroom Behavior
1. You will be expected to arrive on time to class ready to learn.
2. You should bring with you the following:
· a pen or a pencil and lined paper
· any written homework due that day
· your three-ring binder (no go-ports please!)
· any books you will need for that particular class
3. In order for our time together to be productive, you must abide
by the following expectations:
· You must respect the views and opinions of every member
of the class.
· To avoid interrupting a classmate or your teacher while
she or he is speaking, you should raise your hand and wait
for your teacher to call on you.
· Please do not keep your hand raised after a classmate has
begun to speak.
· You may not disrupt classroom activities in any way.
· If you have to use the bathroom or get a drink of water,
you need NOT ask your teacher. Simply leave the
classroom quietly and return quickly. If a classmate has
left the room to use the facilities, please wait until he or
she has returned before leaving yourself.
· Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom without
the teacher’s permission.
Consequences
· If you repeatedly fail to abide by any of the above
guidelines you may be asked to leave the classroom for
a “time out” or for the remainder of class. You should
sit quietly outside the classroom until your teacher
speaks to you.
· If the behavior in question continues, your teacher will
notify your advisor, who may notify your parents.
· You may be asked to serve a Disciplinary Detention
depending on the seriousness or chronic nature of your
misbehavior.
Written Assignments
1. All outside-of-class written work must be submitted at the beginning of class on the day such assignments are due.
2. Formal written assignments, such as essays, short stories, or poetry, must be typed. Such assignments must also be submitted electronically before class.
3. Daily homework may been typed or handwritten and is due in class.
4. You can expect to receive written guidelines for all formal written assignments.
5. All such assignments must be written twice for separate grades, the second grade counting more than the first.
6. While you may discuss written assignments with your parents and/or your classmates, such assistance must remain oral in nature.
Consequences
· If you fail to submit daily homework at the beginning of
class without a legitimate excuse on three separate
occasions during the same quarter, you can expect to serve
an Academic Detention.
· Sloppily executed or blatantly incomplete homework will be
considered late.
· (Note: if you cannot complete your homework for any
reason, you should email your teacher well before class.)
· Failure to submit formal outside-of-class written
assignments will result in a deduction of five points per
day for each day the assignment is late. Such assignments
are NOT considered complete until they have been emailed
AS ATTACHMENTS to Mr. Follansbee.
· If you need an extension of the due date on any formal
written assignment, you must speak to or email your
teacher at least twenty-four hours in advance of the due
date. Your teacher will inform you as to whether your
request warrants an extension. If an extension is granted,
no points will be deducted. If an extension is NOT
granted, you may still submit the assignment
late, gracefully accepting the reduction in your grade.)
Effort & Participation
1. Knowing full well that the academic year is long and can become exhausting at times and that you undoubtedly have a variety of commitments pulling you in a number of different directions, you are still expected to put forth your best effort in each and every class.
2. Part of your effort in this course extends beyond the walls of the English classroom in that you are expected to seek extra help from your teacher if you are experiencing difficulty with any part of the course.
3. Given that students participate in their classes in many different ways, you are expected to pay attention during classroom discussions and offer your opinions as frequently as possible.
4. Mr. Follansbee’s email address at K-O is follansbee.h@k-o.org/, although if you are on First Class, you may simply type his first or last name and click on his full name when it appears.
5. You are expected to check this website regularly. Write this address down in your assignment book:
