This is my 18th year teaching, coaching and advising at K-O. If one counts my
6 years as a student at K-O, this is my 24th year here! Needless to say, I
think K-O is a great place.
There are so many goals for each of these classes. In addition to developing
academic skills such as writing, active studying, speaking, and researching,
there is the overall mission of enjoying the study of history. Writing is
especially emphasized, as it is a skill that will be used throughout one's
lifetime. In the Form I class we cover Native American cultures in the
Americas, European aarrival, colonial America, the American Revolution, the
early years of the United States, women's rights, civil rights, ending up at
the American Civil War. In the Form II class, the latter half of the 19th
century in America is studied, as well as the 20th century with an emphasis
upon political ideology and comparative government. Both courses emphasize
student participation, and hopefully there is a mix of sreious study along
with some good-natured humor. There is a great deal of truth to the
expression that fact is stranger than fiction, and my hope is that students
will not only enjoy the course, but also will have an interest in history for
a lifetime
