Instrument Supplies

Just as with any subject in middle school students in the instrumental program need to have the proper supplies. This list of supplies will aid each parent on what is needed. I advocate student`s purchasing their own instruments rather than renting from the school. All school instruments are sterilized and repaired during the summer, but as instruments age, it becomes harder to maintain good looking instruments that are guaranteed to work.

There are several music stores in our immediate area that have outstanding rent to own programs, even if you aren`t planning on purchasing an instrument it would be good to just talk to the stores and see what option are available for you.

instrument supplies:

Flutes:

  1. cleaning rod
  2. moisture grabber ( to help alleviate pads going bad)

Clarinets:

  1. All clarinet students need to be playing on # 2 1/2 reeds # 3 is better.
  2. Moisture grabber for storing clarinet and saving the pads from damage.
  3. Cork Grease
  4. Lip saver (item that cushions the lips on the mouthpiece.
  5. Students should have minimum of 3 reeds in their case and one on the instrument at all times.

An item that is not necessary but I recommend highly is a Rovner Ligature ( helps student play in tune much better)

Saxophones:

  1. Alto and tenor sax should be using #2 1/2 -#3 reeds (3 spares and 1 on the instrument at all times)
  2. Moisture grabber to safely store the instrument.
  3. End plug ( used when instrument is in case and helps keep instrument from damage)
