What is the best way to contact Mrs. Canevari?
I check each child's folder every morning for any notes. That
would be the best way to communicate with me if it is important.
I try my best to respond to all notes the day that I receive
them. You may also email me, but I am not able to check my email
until after school, or even sometimes later that night. Please
allow me up to three days to respond to your questions or
comments through email. You may also call the school and leave
a message with the secretary. I am unable to call you back
during the day, but will do my best to get back to you that
afternoon after dismissal.
What should I do if my child is absent from school?
If your child is absent please call the school and let the nurse
know why your child is absent. It is important we know what
germs and illnesses are going around the school. Homework may be
requested. If homework is requested it will be in the office
after 2:45 pm. Some class work may have to be made up as well.
How will I be made aware of my child's behavior in school?
We use the Green, Yellow, Red Behavior System in Room 12.
Should your child change his/her color, you will be notified THAT
DAY so you are able to address the issue at home promptly.
Please click on the icon for Behavior if you would like more in-
depth information.
Can I send birthday invitations to school?
Invitations may be sent to school as long as everyone in the
class will be receiving one; or if a boy is having a party and
all the boys are invited and vice versa for girls. The students
are not permitted to pass out invitations to children in other
clasrooms. Those invitations will have to be mailed.
How are birthday's celebrated in room 30?
Room 30 birthday celebrations are short and usually after lunch,
or at the end of the day. You should send in a note a few days
in advance letting me know when you'd like to celebrate your
child's birthday so that we do not celebrate more than 1 birthday
per day. Birthday treats should be small, easy to pass out, and
one for each child in the class. PLEASE REMEMBER WE
ARE A PEANUT-FREE CLASSROOM, so all birthday treats must abide by
this. Please do NOT send in goody bags for the class. Children
are not allowed to go from room to room to pass out treats to
other students or teachers. Please be certain that all birthday
snacks are dropped off in the office anytime before 12:00.
Do you celebrate the holidays?
YES! I love celebrating the holdays, and any holiday at that.
If your family has a special holiday tradition they would like to
share with the class please let me know. I encourage discussions
of different holidays so that the children will have some
knowledge of other cultures and traditions. Please notify me of
any conflicts you may have regarding these discussions.
Does Room 30 have a daily snack?
Yes we do. Snack is about 15 minutes each morning, and at times
will be a "working snack." This means that students are
working while they have an assignment to complete. This is
usually during guided reading, so they have a while to eat while
they work. The children should have something SMALL and HEALTHY
to eat. Please do NOT send cookies, candy, chocolate, chips,
etc. Also, your child's snack should be something that they are
able to open and eat by themselves. We're teaching independence
in our classroom! One drink and one snack will do, especially
since I KNOW everyone ate a good healthy breakfast...right?? :)
What does my child need for specialist?
Music: nothing
Art: The children may be painting, using clay and/or markers. If
you are concerned about them getting their clothes ruined it is
best to send them to school wearing something "old". Remember,
we have Art on Mondays!
Library: Book Exchange! The children MUST remember their library
books. They are not allowed to take out new books before
returing the old ones. If your child forgets their books they
can put books on hold and bring in the old ones the next day. A
reminder will be sent out from Mrs. Vollano if your child has a
book that is long past the due date.
Gym: Everyone MUST wear sneakers to participate. Girls should
not wear skirts or dresses on GYM day.
When can I volunteer?
Guest readers are scheduled to read usually on a Friday. These
are previously assigned from those of you that signed up at Open
House. However, if you find that you have some free time and
would like to come in and read to the class, drop me a note and
we'll schedule you to come in. Room 30 loves seeing their family
come in and join the class!
For celebrations or special activities in our classroom, you may
also volunteer to help. Room 30's room mother will usually send
out a notice to inform you of the celebration and when we need
help.
When I volunteer can I bring a sibling?
When you are volunteering you are commiting yourself to children
in Room 30. We ask that all siblings stay home so that there are
no additional distractions for you as the volunteer and the
students who need your undivided attention. Thank you for
understanding!
What is the Caught You Being Good Jar?
When a child is "caught being good," they receive a coupon. This
may include helping a friend, giving an answer that is out of
this world and showing they are paying attention, or doing any
other good deeds around the school. If I observe this behavior,
I give that student a coupon. At the end of the week, we have a
raffle. I usually pick 5 names out of the jar. Those students
are congratulated and allowed to pick out of the Treasure Box.
What is the Estimation Jar?
Once a week, on Fridays, we have the Estimation Jar. There is a
weekly estimator who fills the jar with anything they want. They
could put only a few, or fill it to the top. The student counts
it out as they put it in the jar and writes the correct number on
a small piece of paper. On Friday, the Estimator shows the
class. Each student makes an estimate of how many
objects are in the jar this week. Then we observe to see who
guessed exact, too many, or too few.
Can my child have peanut products for lunch?
Yes, your child may bring a peanut product in for lunch, but ONLY
lunch. Room 30 is a PEANUT FREE room. Please try your best to
remind yourself of this and be conscious of reading labels.
