Hello and welcome to first grade! My name is Petrina (Ballas) Canevari. This
will be my seventh year teaching at Mathewson Elementary School. Time
flies when you're having fun! I absolutely love teaching at Mathewson. I have
been lucky to have had students in the past that have been absolutely
amazing and have such great memories! I am so excited for another great
bunch!
I was born and raised in Milford, CT. I actually went to Mathewson
Elementary School when I was a little girl. I graduated from Quinnipiac
University in Hamden, CT with my Master's degree in Elementary Education. I
successfully passed my BEST portfolio, which makes me a BEST certified teacher
by the state of CT. In August I just graduated from Sacred Heart University
with my 6th year certification in Literacy.
I LOVE to teach, but when I'm not doing that, I love to spend time with my
husband Dan, my family, and friends. I also have a love for cooking, baking,
shopping, love to read books and watch movies. I enjoy outdoor activities at
any time of the year. I love to travel when I can, and see new places. I am
also 100% Greek and proud of it!
I can't wait to meet the new "Canevari Crew!"
"If a child cannot learn in the way that we teach, we must teach in the way
that the child can learn." -Marie Clay
First grade is a year of tremendous growth! Throughout the year, I will be
there for each child through the milestones of first grade. My
classroom is a safe and welcoming environment, where each child is
encouraged to try his or her best to grow as a first grader. Each child is
capable of learning in their own way, and will succeed in Room 30. I will
give the children as much as I can through the course of the year to help
them become aspiring and independent individuals. I expect students to
enter the classroom willing to give 110% each and every day. My goal is to
encourage the children in my classroom show their full potential, along with
all that fun we have every day!
I became a teacher because it is a passion of mine and truthfully, I
absolutely love coming to work each day! I am willing to do whatever it
takes for the children in my classroom to feel respected and special,
because they are!!
