What We’re Learning

Reading- We have been working hard in reading groups and shared reading. Students are learning how to identify the theme of a book. They are thinking about what message or lesson the author wants us to learn from the story. We are also focusing on differentiating between fact and opinion, cause and effect.

Writing- The students have just taken their very first timed writing prompt. They have learned that writing a story in 45 minutes is quite different than working on a piece for weeks. However, in looking through them, I am proud of what the students were able to produce for their first time. I will be going to score writing prompts for students across the district next week and am excited to see the work of all Milford’s second graders.

Our ABC Animal Snapshots class book is officially done!! They did such an amazing job on this book and we can’t wait until they come back from the publishers in June.

Math- We have completed our chapters on money and time. Students made some great connections to the real world. They realize that these are skills we use each and every day. Please also continue to practice subtraction skills each night!

FUNdations- We have been working on ways to spell long o sounds, including oa, oe, ow. It can be tricky to decide which spelling to use in a word. We’re trying to come up with ways to remember which spelling to use when.
