Can I send in birthday invitations to school?

If you invite the entire class then YES! If you are a girl and
invite ALL the girls in Room 31, then YES! If you are a boy and
invite ALL the boys in Room 31, then YES! I will NOT allow your
child to go to another classroom and invite someone with an
invitation. Please understand that many feelings get hurt when
children are not invited to a classmate's party when other
children in the class are.

What are bonus words on spelling tests?

Bonus words are just extra words for your child to learn.
Everyone must attempt them on the test BUT it is NOT counted
wrong if you mispell it. 10 bonus points earns a NO HOMEWORK PASS.

What is DEAR Time?

DEAR stands for Drop Everything And Read. It's a time when the
children read silently at their desks from their book boxes.
What is a book box?
A book box is a box of books your child picks out each week.
Each child chooses three books on their reading level and hree
free choice books which are categorized by topics. They read
them silently, with a parent volunteer and with their reading
buddies. Each week your child selects a new set of books to keep
in their box for the entire week.

What do I do if my child is absent?

If your child is absent, please call it into the nurse's office
(not the main office). It is important to know what
germs/illnesses are traveling around the classroom. You may call
the main office to request homework. If homework is requested in
the morning it will be brought down to the office. Some classwork
as well as homework will also need to be made up. I will
allow the child 2 days upon their return for missed work.
However, homework assigned on their return day MUST be completed!

What if my child has a change in their dismissal?

Please send in a note that morning explaining the change of
dismissal. Please note if they are a FOOT walker or CAR walker.
Please note children may NOT ride a different bus home. If your
child is going to have an on-going change then one note with that
information is fine. Example: Every Monday child's name has dance
and they will be a CAR walker, etc...

Do you celebrate holidays/birthdays?

Holidays will be seasonally introduced. Discussions will provide
children with a knowledge of other cultures and traditions. Our
room mothers will contact you when assistance is needed. Please
let me know if there are any problems with the discussions of
holidays(example religious conflicts).
Yes! We have a short celebration during snack. You may wish to
send in cupcakes or another snack. Treats should be easy to pass
out. Please send in a note a few days prior so that we are not
celebrating more than one birthday on a given day. Children with
summer birthdays can celebrate their HALF birthday! Treats
should be left in the office before 10:30 or sent in with your
child on that day.
