~Read sections 3-1 (pp 74-80) and 3-4 (pp 95-99).  Take notes in your lab

~Go to Brainpop and watch video on Flight.  Take the quiz and email me the 
results.
~Fill in the vocabulary sheet.  Some words are in the textbook.  You will 
need to look up a few other terms on reliable websites.

This HW is due next Monday, but don't wait till Sunday to do!!  You will have 
other things to do.

~See above.
~Based on Stations lab and Flying Cylinder, come up with an experiment that 
changes one of the factors that influence flight.  Think of materials.  Be 
prepared to discuss with group tomorrow.

Friday, March 30
~Reading, note taking, brainpop, and vocab sheet completed by Monday.  
Assigned this past Wednesday.  If you haven’t started, why are you waiting to 
do this weekend?
~Experimental plan completed and materials gathered to do experiment on 
Monday:  at least 3 changes to the IV and a minimum of 3 trials per change.
~Set up data table so you’re ready to record for Monday.
~Get bridge quiz signed.

Be sure to communicate with your group about the experimental plan.  Plan for 
contigencies.

    o Recommendations for the manufacturer – give proof.

~Make graph of your data.  Use your reference sheets
~Answer the trend and conclusion questions in your lab notebook.  Use full 
sentences, reword the question as part of the answer:
    
1.  State the trend (if line graph); greatest and least effect (if bar graph)
2.  What conclusion can you make based on the data.  
3.  Do the findings make sense? Use science to explain (research information).
4.  What were some experimental errors?  What improvements would you make if 
you repeated?

Most got a good start on graph in class.  Don't be cheap with the words.  Be 
thorough in your answers.

report.  Graph paper is on the back of the template (use graphing hints sheet 
if necessary).  Printed copy is due Monday.  Be sure to save in two places - 
trusted computer and flashdrive.

~Set up lab notebook as I showed in class.
~Go to brainpop and watch scientific method at 
http://www.brainpop.com/science/scientificinquiry/scientificmethod/
User and password are the same (darienps).  Watch the film, take the quiz, 
print the results or email to me at rosterndorf@darienps.org.  This is due 
Tuesday.  Remember, the site shuts down at 5:30 to school accounts.

~With a parent, read and sign the "Welcome to Science."  Return the tear-off 
section and keep the information part in your reference section of binder.
~Fill in the purple sheet.  Let me know the type of learner you are.  Please 
pay special attention to the goal(s) you have for 8th grade science.  Be 
realistic.  Let me know your plan for reaching the goal.
