In your WNB tell the story of your name.  Why were you given the name you have?  What were the other alternatives?  Who made the final decision?  This should be told like a story so have some fun with it.  Vocab 2 due on Friday.

3)   How does fear play into/affect your 8thgrade paradigms? When is it a problem? When does it motivate you? Provideat least one specific exampleof a time when you deal with fear in regards to defining an element of your world! (Length: At least one full paragraph!)

Using the pink sheet you filled out in class write a prediction about what you think A Midsummer Night's Dream will be about.  Be specific regarding characters, settings and themes you believe will be present.  If you have already read the story or are familiar with the story write a review of the story based on your past experience.

Monday 1/23:
In your WNB create a list of themes that you see present throughout the 13 statements on the purple sheet we've been discussing in class.  Remember a theme is an overall message or idea that can be seen throughout a piece of writing.  So the themes you're listing for this assignment would be ones that could cover one or more of the 13 statements on the purple sheet.

Wednesday 1/11:
Technically the only homework you have tonight is that your RRS 2 is due tomorrow; however, if you were not in class today you should check out the body paragraph structure sheet for your class I put on my class handouts page and highlight your body paragraphs the same way I did my sample.  Also, you should take a look at the example leads we borrowed from Mr. Sorensen, also on my class handouts page, and practice 3 different lead types.

Hey everyone...bear with me for a couple of days, teacherweb has been giving me issues.  All classes should look for textual evidence to support the reasons you created in class today.  RRS 2 due on Thursday.  Vocab 3/4 due on Friday.

Friday 1/6:
Periods 1&7: In your WNB select which character you will be writing about and create a pro/con list for the punishment which was given to that character in the book.  For example: Dodger-life in prison-pro: he doesn't corrupt other kids-con: he's only a kid who won't live a free life as an adult. Obviously you need to have more than one example in your chart. Periods 3&8: Complete chart in WNB for both essay prompts.  A sample of the chart is on my class handouts page (scroll down to second page) but it needs to be done in your WNB.  The list of social critiques is also on my class handouts page (scroll down to second page); you may use information from both class periods.

Period 8 I forgot to tell you to type it in class so please pass this on to others in the class to make sure everyone brings in a typed copy tomorrow!

Monday 12/5:
Get your personal essay signed by a parent and bring it back to school tomorrow.  In your WNB: look up the definitions for fear and courage, write those definitions down and the answer the following question: do you agree or disagree with those definitions?  Why?  This response should be at least a half page for both.

Friday 12/2:
For those of you who have to do two RRS' this quarter, RRS 1 is due on Monday.  Make sure the questions given in class today are finished for Monday.  If you were absent today the summary sheet and the questions are available under the class handouts tab of  my website.  We are not reading chapters 15-21, we are only reading the summaries for those chapters and then answering the questions.

Thursday 12/1:
Finish reading chapter 13 if we did not finish in class and read chapter 14.  Be ready for a reading quiz tomorrow. Vocab 1 for everyone is due on Friday and RRS 1 for those who have to do two this quarter is due on Monday.

Wednesday 11/30:
Answer the following question in your WNB:  Based on our conversation in class today about communication write down how Oliver might have declared his innocence sooner if he had been a better communicator.  Think about everything that happened from when he realized what Charley Bates and Dodger were doing through when he fainted in the courtroom.  Could he have communicated better at any point during that time?  If so, how?  What could he have done or said?  This should be at least a page in your WNB...anything less will earn you a slip. Vocab 1 for everyone is due on Friday and RRS 1 for those who have to do two this quarter is due on Monday.

Tuesday 11/29:
Read chapters 11 and 12 and be prepared for a quiz tomorrow.   Vocab 1 for everyone is due on Friday and RRS 1 for those who have to do two this quarter is due on Monday.

Monday 11/28:
Yikes!  Apparently I've been remiss about updating my homework site...sorry  For tonight everyone has to read chapters 9&10 in Oliver Twist.  There is an important event which takes place over the course of these two chapters.  Mark that event with a post-it note!  Vocab 1 for everyone is due on Friday and RRS 1 for those who have to do two this quarter is due on Monday.

Thursday 11/17:
Period 1: Study for Victorian Britain and ch. 1-4 quiz.  Periods 3&8:  In your WNB: How would Oliver's life be different if the people he encountered had a different first impression of him?  Period 7: In your WNB: What is your first impression of Oliver Twist?  List 3 character traits which support your impression and give textual evidence to prove each trait.  The Victorian Britain and Ch 1-4 quiz is being moved to Monday.

Wednesday 11/16:
Periods 1,3&8: Answer the following in your WNB: What is your first impression of Oliver Twist?  List 3 character traits he shows and explain how he shows them.  Use textual evidence to support your response.  Period 7: Answer the following in your WNB: Write about your first impression of a teacher, coach, family member or friend.  What did you think of that person?  What about that person made you think that way?  Was your first impression correct?  How has your opinion changed or how hast hat person continued to demonstrate that first impression?  The Victorian Britain and Ch 1-4 quiz is being moved to Monday.


Tuesday 11/15:
Periods 1,3&8: read through chapter 4 in Oliver Twist.  Period 7: read through chapter 2 in Oliver Twist.  The Victorian Britain and Ch 1-4 quiz is being moved to Monday.

Monday 11/14:
Thank you for all of the birthday wishes:)  Go to the Class Handouts tab of my website then download and print the Oliver Twist chapter summaries which are there.  Read and highlight and character names within the summaries for chapters 1-4.  If you still need to get your RRS' signed please do so!  Quiz on Victorian Britain Webquest and Ch. 1-4 of Oliver Twist on Friday.

Friday 11/11:
Anyone who has not shown me their RRS signatures will do so on Monday.  Webquest is also due on Monday.

Thursday 11/10:
Periods 1&8: Webquest and signed RRS due on Monday.  Periods 3&7: signed RRS due tomorrow (period 3 ignore this) and webquest due on Monday.

Wednesday 11/9:
Tomorrow we will be talking about Charles Dickens so make sure you're ready with that worksheet.  I will be checking RRS' which needed to be signed and we will be doing some other housekeeping type work.  Webquest for Victorian London is due on Monday.

Friday 11/4:
No homework:)  I will be out on Monday so you will be working on the Charles Dickens packet and questions I gave you in class today.  That is due for discussion on Wednesday.  Make sure that you have an idependent reading book for class also. If you have not gotten your RRS signed you must do that for Wednesday also.  Anyone who was absent today you will take the vocab quiz on Wednesday.  Apparently Wednesday is going to be a busy day:)

Thursday 11/3:
Pictures and signed RRS (if you got it back) will be due tomorrow.  Vocab quiz is also tomorrow.

Wednesday 11/2:
Finish pictures if not done in class.  If you were given back your first RRS please get it signed by a parent.  Vocab quiz is on Friday.

Monday 10/31:
Bring in the book you will be using for RRS 2 and any notes or questions you may have already answered.  You are going to be using class time tomorrow to work on your RRS and ask me any questions that you may have regarding that assignment.  Vocab quiz is on Friday.  If you did not turn in your essay yesterday due to not having power I am expecting your essay tomorrow.

Friday 10/28:
Personal Essays are due on Monday!  Title, size 12, readable font, double spaced after you've written your name, date and period.  Periods 3&8: vocab 4 is due on Monday also.  2nd RRS is due on Wednesday for everyone and your vocab quiz will be on Friday.

Thursday 10/27:
We're peer editing tomorrow so please have a draft of your paper that someone can easily read and correct.  Personal Essay final draft will be due on Monday 10/31 Periods 1&7: vocab 3 is due tomorrow.  Periods 3&8: vocab 4 is due on Monday.  All classes:  I am changing the due date of RRS 2, it will now be due on Wednesday 11/2.

Wednesday 10/19:
Get your narrative signed and bring it back to me tomorrow.  Complete the Post-it homework for National Writing Day tomorrow.  Periods 3&8: vocab 3 is due on Monday.

Tuesday 10/18:
You should have selected 3 insights from the activity we did in class today.  Tonight, in your WNB write at least a half page about each insight.  What does it mean to you?  How can you connect to it?  Do you think it is a worldly or personal insight?  Why? 

Monday 10/17:
Finish the journal inventory we discussed in class today.  You should have 12 journal entries in your chart.  Do the best you can and we will discuss any difficulties you may have in class...but you should come in with an attempt!  Periods 1&7: vocab 2 is due tomorrow.

Thursday 10/13-Friday 10/14:
Yes we are in Boston but don't forget that you still need to complete the reflection journal from our Boston trip.  Be ready to debrief about the trip and discuss your journal entries from the trip on Monday.  Periods 1&7: vocab 2 is due on Tuesday 10/18.

Wednesday 10/12:
You must be at school tomorrow morning at 5:15am!!!  To be late is to be left!!  Make sure that you have everything you will need for the day in some sort of carry on/backpack and make sure you are dressed appropriately for the weather and for a full day of activities.  We are going to have fun, fun, fun!!  Boston here we come!!!

Tuesday 9/27:
Complete the WNB entry you began in class today.  Remember that there are 2 steps you need to complete for each quote you choose.  Period 7 get your Chains RRS signed.  Periods 1&7 vocab 1 is due on Friday-typed.  All classes RRS #1 is due on Monday 10/3-typed.

Monday 9/26:
Get your Chains RRS signed by a parent and bring it back to me tomorroe.  Period 7 this does not apply to you.  Periods 1&7: Vocab 1 is due on Friday and it must be typed!

Friday 9/23:
All classes: complete question 1 of your Oct. 3 RRS.  This can either be typed or handwritten, but remember that the final due on Oct. 3 must be typed.  Periods 1&7: vocab 1 due next Friday.

Thursday 9/22:
All classes: bring your independent reading book to class tomorrow.  Periods 3&8: vocab 1 due tomorrow.

Wednesday 9/21:
Take a night off  Read if you feel so compelled  Periods 3&8: Vocab 1 is due on Friday.

Tuesday 9/20:
1) Tomorrow is celebration day which means you need to have the final copy of your narrative: 1.5 or double spaced, 12 font, name, period, date, title.  No extra spaces anywhere...save paper people!  You must also have the other 2 typed drafts with you to turn in and your purple peer revision sheet (period 7 you are doing this as a self revision sheet.)  2) Periods 3&8: vocab 1 is due on Friday.

Monday 9/19:
1) Come in tomorrow with a new, clean copy of your narrative piece for a final day of peer editing.  2) Final draft and all rough drafts due on Wednesday when we will have our Celebration Day.  3) Periods 3&8: vocab 1 due on Friday.

Friday 9/16:
Bring a completed, typed draft to class on Monday.  At this point your story should be complete in your WNB so all you would need to do is put the pieces together on your computer and print it out.

Thursday 9/15:
1..  Fix your team goal if needed.  2.  Bring a photo of yourself for Team Day on Friday.  3.  Wear Navy and bring a bag lunch for Friday.  4.  Bring a completed, typed draft to class on Monday.  Make sure you have found a few places to add snapshots and thoughtshots based on what was discussed in class today.

Wednesday 9/14:
1. Boston forms due Thursday.  2.  Fix your team goal if needed.  3.  Bring a photo of yourself for Team Day on Friday.  4.  Wear Navy and bring a bag lunch for Friday.  5.  Line writing, make sure you are following the plan you created for yourself in class today.

Tuesday 9/13:

1.  Boston forms  2.  Summer forms (ex: emergency cards, student/parent handbook, etc.) 3.  Select 4 seeds from all of the collecting we've done over the last two days and write about each seed for 5-10 minutes.  4.  Type and print out your Navy Team Goal.
