ASPEN and You!

Dear Parents:

Grade 6 Computers is a two quarter class. Your child takes Grade 6 Computers two times a week. I anticipate being pleased with their work. As the semester continues, the challenges will increase. The second quarter is more demanding than the first. There will be more assignments.

I want to inform you that I do not have a late penalty for assignments. Missing assignments will be entered as "M" which calculates as a 0 until they are submitted. Students have the opportunity to correct mistakes and raise their grades on their production assignments. If the correction brings their grade into another level (for example a B range to an A range), I will change the grade in my book. Before turning in an assignment, the student always has the opportunity to check it against my final copy. Therefore, I expect their best work. Obviously, work handed in the last minute will not be able to be corrected because of lack of time. All work is to be done in class, even corrections.

Since I meet my students only two times a week, I need your support. When you see a missing assignment in ASPEN, please have your child check with me. Sometimes, they simply did not hand it in. Sometimes, although I graded it, I did not record the grade. Sometimes, it is just not done. In any scenario, it is important for the student to check with me. I appreciate emails and phone calls, and try to respond as quickly as possible. However, it is important for the student to communicate with me as well. Middle school students should be developing self-advocacy skills.

I am looking forward to working with your child. Please contact me whenever you have a question.

Sincerely,

Diane Kraemer
