Dear Parents,
Since I have become a parent I have become an enormous fan of Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). The programs they feature for children reinforce a lot of academic concepts, themes, and teaching strategies your child hears in the classroom. Below are children’s programs that are seen daily on CPTV along with their specific target academic areas. So Let them Watch T.V..
Math - Cyber Chase- numeral and spatial concepts, problem solving, math vocabulary (High Level PreK-2)
Science- Sid the Science Kid- Questions, Surveys, graphing information and making connections to the world around.
Vocabulary- Word Girl & Martha Speaks
These programs, previews specific vocabulary words at the beginning of the show. When the word is used it is immediately defined by the characters and the meaning is woven part of the story.
Reading Skills- Super Why- This show uses fairy Tale stories, and allows children to interact and respond to questions. Finally the characters make reading connections to other stories.
Wild Krats- This show details specific information about animals creatures and how important they are to our environment. This delivers great background information for your child to use when discussing science topics or when making connections to related stories.
