FAQ

It was just 2 years ago I was a parent of a first time Kindergarten
student. It can be emotionally overwhelming especially the first few
weeks. Below are some questions that you may have. Please email me any
other concerns you have and I will try to get a response back to you as
quickly as possible. In case of emergencies or alternate dismissal I
encourage you to call the main office @ (203) 977-4469

What will my child expect on the morning he/she arrives ?

When your child comes in bright and early they will be greeted
warmly and encouraged to begin the morning routine such as hanging
up their coats, backpacks and surrendering their take home
folder. Then they will be asked to sign in,make a lunch choice,
respond to the morning message board then find their seat to begin a morning work. Lunch Boxes
can be left in their pack backs. As the weeks continue it will be expected for your child to do
this independently when they arrive each morning.

When can my child begin to buy lunch?

Each day your child will be eating lunch @ 12:00am.We will begin
heading down to the cafteria at 11:55am. Your child will sit at
long tables with their classroom peers.
We encourage all parents to pack a lunch for their child until
the initial transition is less overwhelming for them.
When they are ready you may send in a check and it will go into
your child's account. It will work like a debit account,
deducting money everytime your child buys a lunch.
Our classroom assistants will be in the cafeteria during
lunchtime helping your child when needed. It is helpful to remind
your child they have lunch in their packback or if they are
buying lunch. Lunch is $2.85 and milk is 0.50 cents and can be
purchased separately. Also, your child requires daily healthy
snack in the morning.
Please help them to know what is for snack and what is for
lunch

How will my child know which bus to take to and from school?

Information about your child's bus will be published in the
local newspaper,a week or so before school begins. You may call
the office to confirm the bus number going to school and going
home(they may be different buses) During Kindergarten Orientation
In class I will also have a bus list and before school begins
you will be asked to fill out a dismissal form and return to me
on Kindergarten Orientation Day! Whether your child takes the
bus, is a parent pick up or attends an after school program..it
will be considered your child's permanant dismissal. Any changes
for any amount of time must be made in writing.
Each Kindergarten student will be wearing a bus tag to and
from school each day. Students taking the bus home will be
dismissed from the auditorium and escorted by teachers to the
hallway and then onto their specific bus. This process will
continue through to November. Students quickly adapt to this
process and easily remember their bus number after the first 2
weeks.

What if my child misses their bus or gets on the wrong bus by accident?

It is a terrifying feeling when you discover your child is not
on the bus. Chances are they either missed it or is on another
bus. Immediately call the main office and explain who your child
is and the name of the their teacher. They will quickly begin the
process of speaking to the teacher, calling the bus company so
they may get in contact with the bus driver. Most often if your
child is on the wrong bus the bus driver will return your child
to the school after he has completed his run. If your Student
misses their bus from school their teacher will call you at home
or on your cell phone to let you know your child is safe and
waiting for you in the main office. Please make sure your child
wears his/ hers bus tag everyday to school! They are so important
to your child's safety.
