Getting To know Ms. Metcalf

                     Welcome to Kindergarten!!!!!
Raised in Nova Scotia Canada, I attended Dalhouise University, but received
a 2 year diploma at Nova Scotia Teacher’s College for teaching preschool
programs. I completed my Bachelor’s @ University of Connecticut in General
Studies and continued on to receive my Masters of Teaching at Sacred Heart
University. I have taught 2nd grade for 6 years, and this is my 8th year
teaching kindergarten.I have been a Connecticut resident for over 20 years. I
live in Norwalk with my 6 3/4 year old daughter, a rabbit and a cat. Teaching
Kindergarten is a privilege and a lot of fun. I am very proud to work with
great curriculum, materials and experienced hard working colleagues!

"Children Learn what they live"

Throughout my teaching career, I have become an enormous
fan and follower of Responsive Classroom. "The Responsive Classroom is an
approach to teaching and learning that seeks to balance the teaching of
academic skills in conjunction with the teaching of social skills as an
integral part of everyday school life.
Establishing a positive classroom community allowing students to
participate and grow both socially and academically. It becomes my focus for
the first 6-8 weeks, and the benefits last throughout the year.
It is my goal to bring out the absolute best of all of my students using and
applying these techniques I have learned.
