Students should never be reluctant to request assistance should
they feel confused, unsure or overwhelmed. If I can't assist you, I
will direct you to someone who can. I'm usually at school by 6:45 am
and am after school nearly everday. Because staff members often must
attend meetings or engage in extracurricular commitments, it's best
to check beforehand for afterschool help.
Helping Students is my #1 priority. Inquiries need not be confined to
History. If I can help you I will. Feel free to contact me via phone or e-
mail and a meeting can be arranged as needed.
Students should anticipate academic rigor akin to what might be
expected during the first year of college. It is my hope that by
committing yourself to the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, you
will move to a new level of study. At this "new level" you will no
longer work solely for grades or to please others, nor will you
be "forced" to perform. The prize for your effort will be an
appreciation for the rich legacy of Western Civilization:
philosophy, architecture, art, myth, literature, events and people. The
vast and complex nature of the task before us is a worthy challenge,
but don't be intimidated. The acquisition of knowledge is not a
burden but, rather, incredibly liberating and "enlightening". The
challenge for you is to set aside your preconceived notions of work
and study; of history and its legion causes; of your own limits.
Adopt the Zen mind, "beginner's mind", a "blank slate" on which to
write. Don't assume, or guess, or passively accept. As Emmanuel Kant
commands: "Dare to know."
