Mrs. Luisi's Kindergarten

What Did you Do Today?

What Did You Do Today?

When children come home

At the end of the day.

The question they’re asked

As they scurry out to play Is,

"Tell me, what did you do today?"

And the answer they give

Makes you sigh in dismay.

"Nothing, I did nothing today!"

Perhaps nothing means

That I drew with chalk

Or created a building made out of blocks.

Maybe I read a poem today,

Or went outside to play

Maybe today was the very first time

That my scissors followed a very straight line

Maybe I led a song from beginning to end,

Or played with a brand-new friend.

When you are only five and your heart has wings,

Nothing can really mean so many things!

Questions to ask your child about their kindergarten day:

* Did you hear a story? What was it about?

* Do you remember the title? * Did you like the pictures in the book?

* Did you sing a song today? Can you teach me the song?

* Can you say the Pledge of Allegiance for me?

* Did you work on a project or book today?

* What learning center did you choose today?

* Who did you play with?

* What literacy center did you do?

* Did you go out for recess?

* Did you rest quietly?

* Did you make a picture?

* Did you read a book yourself today?

* Did you write in your journal or writer's workshop?

Ask questions, say something they did was special, let your kindergartner know that what they do is important to you!
