Students who participate in band lessons at our elementary schools receive 30 minute lessons once a week. They occur during the school day and work on a rotating schedule, so that students are pulled out of different subject areas equally. Students are expected to participate in rehearsals outside of the school day - sometimes before, sometimes after - as well as two concerts a year.
The date for the winter concert (5th grade band students who did band in 4th grade ONLY) and spring concert (ALL band students) have been set, and can be found on the calendar page for each school's band. Any students who begin studying an instrument will participate in a semi-formal concert in February at their school as a demonstration of their progress with their instrument.
The instruments available for study are flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, and percussion (snare drum, bells, and accessories). Students interested in saxophone should begin by studying clarinet or flute and will switch during their first year of study.
IF YOUR CHILD IS INTERESTED IN TAKING BAND LESSONS, our instrumental music open house will be taking place on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH AT 6:30 PM IN THE FORAN H.S. AUDITORIUM. This is the best way to get all the information about the program and to rent an instrument for use in lessons.
