Homework Policy

Homework for the week is given out on Mondays and is due by Friday. I
provide the 2 pocket folder and calendar that is used to keep
homework organized. If homework is done early it may be handed in. It is best
for students to hand it into our homework basket throughout
the week, whenever it is completed, so the chances of "forgetting" are
minimized.
I try to keep it simple so that children can have the benefit of
practicing the things we are working on, but are not stressed out. It always
includes a bit of spelling and math, and nightly reading. Good study skills,
time management and RESPONSIBLE habits can be developed if we "work together"
on the homework habit.

HELPFUL HINTS:

*Set aside a QUIET time and place for homework that matches your child and
household's weekly schedules. THE MINUTE THE WORK SESSION IS OVER, ALL PAPERS
AND THE FOLDER SHOULD GO BACK INTO YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK. I tell the children
that their homework folder "lives" in the backpack. We frequently take the
folders out throughout the week. It should NEVER stay at home.

*Check on progress as needed but do NOT have a battle---please send a note in
to let me know if it is a troublesome task

*Homework should not take more than 30 minutes. STOP working if it does and
send me a note--or write on the worksheet/paper

*Extra homework can be given out for students who need a challenge when they
successfully complete the already assigned work

*Students MUST READ at least 15 minutes each night Mon.-Thurs. as part of
their weekly assignment

*We have two recesses each day, and the 2nd one is EARNED by good behavior and
homework completion. Students who do not complete their homework at home will
do it at the afternoon recess.
