Message from the Principal

Our first year as a Grade 3-5 school went smoothly thanks to the work of our staff, PTA, parents, and especially our students. There will be several changes for the 2011-2012 school year. These changes include:
*We will be moving to a Trimester year. This means there will be three marking periods instead of four. The first report card will be distributed on December 16, the second on March 23, and the third on the last day of school.
*We will have two Parent/Teacher Conferenc sessions this year. The first session will be October 19-21, and the second will be April 3-5.
*Our Open House will be Thursday, September 8.

It is our expectation that all students can learn in a safe environment that challenges them to be engaged in their own learning. The Milford Schools' Theory of Action holds that all students will succeed when they are educated in a climate of continual improvement with high expectations for learning and best instructional practices. Therefore, our focus this year will be on instructional improvement, curriculum, and the effective use of student assessments. It is important to remember that the learning principles in all grades will be focused on the Milford Public Schools’ Instructional Plan. These principles include instructional consistency, student engagement, and academic rigor. Any questions that you may have regarding your child's academics should first be addressed with the classroom teacher. We do have materials and support staff to help each student succeed in class.

The safety of our students will continue to be a focus area. Please be sure to sign in the office whenever you visit us, and let our nurse know of any injuries/medications pertaining to your child. We conduct both fire drills and emergency code drills. All Orchard Hills students are expected to conduct themselves properly when in school or on the bus, and when dealing with other children or adults. We follow the district and state guidelines regarding incidents of "bullying", and parents will be notified of disciplinary issues.

We hope to have open communication between the school and the home, and you will receive regular Parent Updates. It is essential that you provide us with up-to-date contact information so that you may stay current with school happenings (this is also important for the safety of your child). OHS encourages everyone to be involved with our PTA. You may contact me by phone, or at cdudley@milforded.org.

We will have another great school year!

Yours truly,

Cliff J. Dudley, principal
