Purpose: To support schools in the process of planning for and implementing
key educational practice designed to raise levels of student achievement
across all classrooms. Data driven decision making and supporting the
development of data teams at the instructional level will be the focus of the
professional development and coaching.
The Theory of Action Plan (TOA) is comprised of three parts. These include:
Data Team TOA, Curriculum & Assessment TOA, and School Climate TOA. Focus
will be directed through the lens of where the school is in the goal,
demonstrated strengths, areas for improvement, and timelines. timelines
include progress monitoring of students, Data Team goal dates, intervention
time-lines, etc., in order to evaluate and adjust instruction.
The Data Team TOA is the focus of the Early Release Wednesdays. This focus
consists of two components: (a) Data Driven Decision Making which impacts
school improvement plans, grade level teams, intervention teams, and one-to-
one conversations; (b) Classroom Walkthroughs which emphasize rigorous and
engaging instruction.

-examine outcome of student work resulting from the new instructional
strtegies
-grade level discussions of progress of data teams, share input from
facilitator, share effective strategies (what teaching strategies are
working, how do we know, what data gives us the best information).
-do our Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) produce what we need?
-what skills/concepts are students still struggling with?
-does team need to change instructional strategies/focus based on identified
results?
December Meeting:
-impact of district benchmarks: are we utilizing them properly, what ones
give us the best feedback on student progress, which focus area (math,
reading, writing) is progressing most and why?
-are we reaching our SMART goals (why/why not)
-conference with ACES facilitator indicates need to refine CFAs
-do we understand how to gather results from instructional cycle/district
benchmarks? (Pre-CFA, teaching skill, Post-CFA, Re-teach)
-one team member from each grade level will attend CALI conference on CFAs
February Meeting:
-examine Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) areas in relationship to focus areas
identified by/with ACES facilitator in October.

Steps for Designing a Performance Assessment?
-prepare information and feedback for team meetings with ACES facilitator on
Feb. 17.
March Meeting:
-using CREC website to develop Common Formative Assessments to measure
student progress.
-comparing organization of OHS Data Teams with another town's organization.
-review/revise grade level procedures identify instructional strategies and
analyze student work.
-Data Team Feedback survey completed by teachers.
-prepare information and feedback for team meetings with ACES facilitator on
March 23.
May Meeting:
-grade level discussions regarding Good Habits Great Readers program.
-grade level discussion (including resource personnel) regarding student
needs to be addressed for 2011-2012 school year.
-compare grade level strategies for addressing needs of Tier 2 and Tier 3
students, and what strategies are most effective in addressing instructional
needs of all students in Literacy & Numeracy.
-continue evaluation of instructional effectiveness through Data Teams.
