Goals and Policies of the PTO

The objectives of the Sherman Parent Teacher Organization ("SPTO") are to be 
achieved, in part, through an educational program directed towards parents, 
teachers and the general public; are to be developed through conferences, 
committees, projects and programs; and are to be governed and qualified by 
the basic policies set forth below. The objectives are: 

A) To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school and 
community;

B) To support legislation laws for the care and protection of children and 
youth;

C) To maintain and enhance the lines of communication for parents, school 
and school board;

D) To provide a neutral ground, a forum, where ideas can be exchanged and 
problems can be presented, addressed and ultimately resolved, and;

E) To represent parents, teachers and children at Board of Education 
meetings.

Basic Policies:
Section I: The SPTO shall be non-commerical, non sectarian and non-partisan. 
It shall not endorse any commercial enterprise. The name of the organization 
and the names of any members in their official capacities shall not be used 
in any connection with a commercial concern not appropriately related to 
promotion of the oejectives of the SPTO.

Section II: The SPTO shall seek neither to direct the administration 
activities of the school nor to control its policies.

Section III: The SPTO may coorperate with other organizations and agencies 
active in child welfare, such as conference groups or coordinating councils, 
provided its representative makes no commitments that bind the group 
represented.
