Does terra-cotta stain clothing? Yes, all students are advised to wear a smock for precesely this reason. Is there a limit to how many pieces we can make this year? No, all students are welcome to create as many pieces as they can finish, fire and glaze. There will be no stifling of creative energy in this classroom. Can we store or prepare food using our creations? Yes, all glazes are food safe...no lead is used in the classroom, in the glazes or in the clay bodies. Do I have to be 'artistic' to take this class? Absolutely not...all that is required is a keen interest in learning coupled with a willingness to place the process of learning before the finished product. You see, we all need to build a skill set in order to perform at a proficient level. I'm here to speed up the learning curve and get my students to the stuff of creative life....original thought and idea development. Will I have fun if I take this class? Well, if you like to work with your hands, get muddy and like a teacher that is seriously into the meduium of clay....then you are set for tons o' fun. What will I get out of Ceramics that will benefit me in the future? Again, well.....I like to think that the ability to creatively problem solve is a wonderful skill. The concept that, by the end of a year's study you will be able to visualize and actualize your own ideas, is exciting to me. Students tend to gain self confidence by taking ownership in the process of self discovery. By this I am referring to the rewards of paced steady learning...the ownership students claim in the skills they have honed. My idea is that the possibility of discovery and innovation is within us all. Fresh thinking and self confidance translate into successes in every aspect of life. |
