Welcome to Mrs. Uccello's LA class!

In Reading this year, we will be reading stories with a focus on various
themes and literary elements using our analogy book, Elements of Literature.
Students will receive these within the first couple weeks of September, and
they will need to be covered within 3 days of receiving it.  Student's name
and subject should be on the cover.  Student's name should also be on the
inside front cover in case it is lost and needs to be located.

(We will also be doing Literature Circles using novels come March) 


In Writing this year, we will be going over the basics of good grammar using
our Holt Handbook. Student's name should be on the inside front cover.  
They should be brought to class every day unless told otherwise. 
 
Exercises will be done and kept in student binders in their writing section. 
These can be used as notes to study for formative quizes and the end of chapter
graded review and test.

We will also focus on how to write an effective expository piece using
various practices from the Empowering Writers series.  
 

*Students need a Writer's Notebook (marble composition notebook) which we will use
each Friday for "free writes" unless otherwise stated. This occurs the first 10
minutes of class and makes for a good writing warm-up. These notebooks will
be collected 1-2 times per marking period just so I can browse to make sure they are writing.

Grading works as follows:
Tests/Projects 30%
Quizzes 25%
Classwork 20%
Responsibility Grade 15%
Homework 10%
