This is my sixth year at West Shore and I am enjoying it more and more
every year. The small neighborhood school atmosphere allows me to get to
know my students and their families and form partnerships in education.
Before teaching at the middle school level, I was an Assistant Professor
of Occupational Therapy at Quinnipiac University where I taught for 13
years. I am taking all that I have learned there to help me prepare my
students for the long road of education ahead of them.
When I am not teaching, I am enjoying time with my husband Leo, my son
Zack, 22, daughter Chelsi, 19 and my Chocolate Lab Jessie, 9. I love being
outside in my garden, at the beach, in my kayak or on long walks with Jess.
When I am not correcting piles of papers, I also enjoy beading, going to
concerts and to the movies.
I love teaching science and sharing a sense of wonder about things that are
all around us in the world- my students will tell you that, "According to
Ms. Bowler, everything is about science!!" My goal as a science teacher is
to help my students break down some barriers they may have about who can do
science. Everyone has the ability to ask questions, seek answers and make
new discoveries. If my students can be outside of the classroom and make a
connection, "Oh, I know why that happens!" then they have truely learned
something in our class.
