Hello, I am Ed Smith, a full-time teacher in the Business Technology
Department teaching Business, Finance, & Marketing (BFM), Banking Services II
and III, and Administrative Services II classes. Additionally, I am the
Junior Achievement of Delaware (JA) coordinator and Business Professionals of
America advisor for Glasgow High School. Additionally, I have been a DIAA
Student Leadership Conference facilitator for the past four years.
I have been a member of the Christina School District family for eight (10)
years as a volunteer/parent, coach, and going on my fifth year as teacher.
The five years teaching have been very rewarding for my students and I.
Since 2007, students have reached the North American Championship in the JA
Banks in Action program with winning the championship one year. In 2009 and
2010, students have reached the Delaware Championships for the JA Titan
program with the 2010 team competiting for a national championship. In 2010,
a student competed in the BPA National Championship.
The Business Technology Department and I are a perfect fit because of my
background in business and banking. The students educational, career, and
life development are realistic because of my experiences in the evolution of
the banking and computer industries. Also, the banking classes are designed
for financial literacy and career focus in the financial sector.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I was Vice President of a $75 million dollar
commercial bank in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Along with a 28-year
banking career, I have started and sold two (2) businesses and was President
& CEO of a development company attempting to start a commercial bank.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Associate of
Arts Degree from Florida State University and a Masters Degree in Career and
Technology Education from Wilmington University.
My outside passions are centered around girls basketball and church. I am
the Head Coach for girls basketball at Delcastle Technical High School.
Additionally, I oversee the Lady Sharpshooters Elite (a developmental
basketball program), as well as, assistant coach the Lady Delaware Panthers
(a college showcase team). Finally, I serve my Church and Diocese by sitting
on various financial committees of each.
The mission of the Business, Finance, and Information Technology Department
is to provide our students with the knowledge and skills critical to
becoming successful in post-secondary educational settings and entry-level
employment in today's technology-driven enviroment.
