The first thing you can do at home is work with your child to be sure he or
she is fluent with all multiplication tables from 0 - 12. Without this
fluency, instruction can be lost as most things we do in the sixth grade
require the use of this skill.

The curriculum in the sixth grade heavily addresses functions using fractions
and decimals. Feel free to pass on your wisdom when checking over your
child's homework. I do not require things to be done "my way". If they have a
different successful method to solve math problems, that I have not
introduced, I would love them to share with all of us. Learning does not just
occur in the 4 walls of my classroom.
This week we will begin our fraction and decimal journey. This Unit is titled
Bits and Pieces I. The beginning of the unit focuses upon understanding the
fraction and comparing fractions. The middle investigation explores the
relationship between fractions and decimals. Theunit concludes as we begin
working with percents. This unit will build a strong foundation for our
future work with fractions, decimals and percents. Please be sure your child
completes all homework so they have the best chance for success as they work
with these skills in the future.
TUTORING this week will be on a sign up basis. I need to do this to keep the
numbers down. Also, if you child received a grade lower than 70% on the Prime
Time unit test, this is the time they may come to retake that test.
