Kindergarten Class Work Update

In Language Arts, the story that we read this week was called Flower Garden. The comprehension skill we focused on this week was on classifying.

We have learned all the letters up until this point.  Please practice the letter recognition, sound recognition and formation.

The sight words that we have been introduced to are here, to, up, get, where, and, one, two, three, but, it, big, in, like, is, I, am, a, the, look, see, have, little, do, not, my, we, red, blue, yellow and can.

Please continue to work on rhyming words.

We have also started to sound out words and try to spell them on their own. We have started doing this in their workbooks. The children are doing well with this activity. You can try and have them sound out three letter words (ex. mat, cat, sit, pig) and write them down.

In Writing, we have been learning how to print our first and last names on handwriting paper. We have been learning to use a capital letter at the beginning and the rest are lowercase letters. Please make sure to continue to practice writing their names on the handwriting paper. We have talked about how we always start forming our letters at the top. We have also started our writing journals. We are learning how to write sentences and illustrate those sentences. Please make sure that your child understands that they understand that there are spaces between words. We tell them to use a two-fingered space. The children enjoy this activity and are learning how to leave spaces, use capital and lowercase letters, and puctuation marks.

In Math,  the focus of this chapter is Subtraction. Please continue to review Addition.

In Religion, we have been talking about how God has given us a neighbors.

In Science, we have been talking about plants.  We have learned about different kinds of plants and plant parts. We have also learned about trees and why they are important to us.

In Social Studies, we talked about our school environment. We have talked about the tools that we use at school, the people in school that can help us, rooms around the school and how classrooms from today, around the world and a long time ago look similar and different.

Please work on learning their address, phone number, and birthday.  Also, please continue to work on learning to tie shoes. This is part of their report cards.

Thank you for all that you do to support the children in their learning!
