As you build notes, pay attention to the following inclusions;

(a) names of the four major divisions and their respective sub-divisions.

(b) the major events of the Precambrian

(c) the mass extinction events over geological time(nature of extinction, severity, and hypothesis)

(d) emergence of hominid evolution over time (last few million years)

(e) major geological correlations to biological events(such as plate tectonics, continental drift, ocean formation )

Tuesday: Read your "Resource package I" that is given to you in class today (and answer the questions for each sheet please)

Wednesday: Read your "Resource package II" for review, that is given to you in class today   (and answer the questions for each sheet please)

Thursday: Read the pages in the book related to "geological time" and relate the data from the website, to the readings posted in the week of Wednesday Oct 22nd(which should have been notes in your binder already)

WEEK OF Sunday OCT 19th - Thursday OCT 23rd:

Sunday: Complete the Osmosis lab, due to hand in on Tuesday please. Do your BEST effort. This alone will keep you busy.

pages 548 - 549 "how do fossils form?"

pages 550 - 551 "what are limitations of the fossil record?"

pages 554 - 555 "the Cambrian explosion : what was it?"

pages 558 - 559 "adaptive radiation

pages 561 - 564 "mass extinction events"

TAKE NOTES ON THESE SPECIFIC CONCEPTS ABOVE, FOR YOURSELF, PLEASE

Thursday: (a) Review your overall evolution notes for the evening and weekend,

(b) complete over the weekend the IB   Evolution problem set, based on paper I and II past paper questions (handed out in class on Thursday)

Sunday: No class today due to Circle time homerooms but homework is to review for the test next week

Tuesday: Complete IB Evolution Problem set I (data analysis questions and short response)

Wednesday: Complete a take-home IB   Evolution QUIZ, due for next Sunday to complete please, handed in

In addition, your Osmosis design lab is due to hand in on Thursday, END   OF   THIS   WEEK.

Thursday:No homework(you have a test to prepare for next week and a take home quiz, - enough to do)

-------------------

WEEK OF Sunday SEPT 28th - Monday October 6th:

Sunday: Prepare excel graphs for the data collected to date, in your lab on Osmosis with an egg as a model. Also, start a template structure in a word.doc, for the initial lab write-up please.

Tuesday: Complete the calculations for % mass change and % volume change of the egg, for each day, relative to the day prior, and decide how to best communicate this data(perhaps an excel wizard template for a bar graph?)

Wednesday: Read in your textbook(Pearson) the following pages, to help you with information about the lab's

pre-lab theory section. (follow the guidlelines for the lab write-up handout provided in class this week).

Read the section "Water & Electrolyte Balance in Animals" pages 934 - 956 to survey WHY   is Osmosis IMPORTANT   in nature? (develop ideas for discussion later please -self guided notes)

Thursday: Spend at least 1 hour with your word.doc creating the general structure to the lab write-up

Sunday: Utlize at least 1 hour please to complete the "pre-lab theory" and observations section of the lab

Monday: Import the major photos you shall use, into the appropriate section of your lab write-up, so that the basis is there, completed with relevant qualitative observations, before we start regular classes again.

WEEK OF SEPT 21st - 25th:

Sunday: read in your text (Pearson) pages 481- 483 on "natural selection"

Tuesday: register your online access code for your new textbook please, if not yet done.

Also read pages 484 - 489 on "Evidence for Evolution" and compare to what we discussed in class.

NOTE:   IN CLASS WE ARE DOING A DESIGN LAB THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK

Wednesday: read page 490 - 495 in the textbook on "process of evolution" and take supplemental notes on the forms of selection, as discussed in class.
