300 WORD STATEMENT DUE ASAP

Write a 300-500 word statement identifying and explaining your theme. Outline the artworks you are planning and further ideas you wish to explore. Include the names of artists who have inspired you.

Investigation Workbook

Take time to prepare for DP12.   Complete all pages up-to-date in your Investigation workbook and do another 20-30 pages.  These should relate to your chosen theme whenever possible and should include records of visits to galleries, further information on artists you discover, idea development, planning for at least three artworks.  If your extended essay is art related include relevant parts of your research.

In addition take time to do some observational drawing – this could relate to your theme but doesn’t have to.  If you are serious about continuing your art studies you will need to include this in your portfolio

Different ideas of beauty (Explore how women have been shown in art at different times)

Consider objects etc personal view compared to others.  Look at ideas of perfection challenging God in Islamic art and architecture.

Manar:  Moved on from manipulation to communication with Arabic and English text and body language.  Communicating the cultural conflict experienced between home, religion, school and different generations.  ‘Ideal Culture of Youth’.  Restrictions and pressures….

Painting, construction and projection.

 

Hania:  Flowers.  Investigate how flowers have been used to represent people, change and many different ideas in different cultures.  Aim to develop a personal artistic and symbolic language from flowers.  Aim to identify and express a really personal view.

 

 

 

 

Visual Art Extended Essay

The majority of your research should be done over this summer.  It is a good idea if you have a plan so that you get all the information you need.  ALL sources must be recorded as you go along – the bibliography should already be shaping up.  First hand sources are particularly important in art.  Try writing some of the essay  - it is easiest to do when information is fresh in your mind.  Make sure you are answering your research question.

Interview Marwa Adel.  Research the body of work you saw and find out what else she does.  Listen to her views.  Who influenced her?  Who does she respect?  Is there anyone she disagrees with?  Or considers old fashioned? 

The artistic traditions of now and the past (Calligraphy etc)

Does she know Nermine Hamam?

What influence did western art have on the work of Egyptian Artist Mahmoud Said?

Visit the Museum in Alex and try to find out as much as possible.  Where did he study?  Who could have influenced him?  Where does he show his work etc?  Who was he friends with?

Influences as written and researched and as identified by looking at examples of work.

The views of gallery owners and people from the east and west may be interesting research.
