Dr. Amira's Special Time

Special Time at Home

Your relationship with each of your children is unique, this is why Dr Amira
recommends twenty minutes of 'special time' with each individual child a day.
It is a time when your child knows that they have your undivided attention
and they are in control of how you spend that time. There should be no
distractions ie T.V. computer or telephone calls.
You may wish to suggest activities ie. jigsaws, cooking, painting playing wih
lego etc but the child decides. Your role is to play-reinforcing good
behaviour, choices and conversation with LOTS of praise. At the end of 15
minutes you summarise what you have done and say'I really liked it
when....' 'You made me happy when...' Wasn't it fun when...." I really liked
the way you...'
End the time with a hug and talk about what you might do in special time

behaviour by using reward charts.
