After graduating from the University of Wales with a BA Honours Degree in
English and English Literature, Miss Sheehan decided to become a Secondary
English teacher.
She completed a PGCE in English (with Drama and Media Studies)and was soon
employed by Bishop Gore Comprehensive School, (a large Secondary school of
more then 1500 students near her family home in Swansea UK).
Mrs. Sheehan began teaching English to students aged 11 to 18 in 1992.
She taught at Bishop Gore comprehensive for 9 years before coming to work at
MES, Cairo. She was 'Head of English' at Bishop Gore - a job that once
belonged to the father of poet Dylan Thomas! As well as running the Bishop
Gore English Department, Mrs. Sheehan carried out much school
based 'language across the curriculum' research for her Educational Masters
and had a Whole-School Responsibility as the school 'Language Coordinator'.
Mrs. Sheehan has been at MES, Cairo since September 2001. She has worked in
both the British and American Sections over the years and has trained as an
IB teacher whilst here at MES, Cairo.
She has sometimes been involved with the Drama department and directed an
adaptation of Lorca's Blood Wedding at MES in 2002. This production was a
great success and involved the then brand new American Section's students
and staff. Everyone enjoyed being involved.
After several years teaching English from 7 to 12 in the British Section and
some Grade 7 MYP and Grade 12 AP English, Mrs Sheehan is now the Head of
English in the American Section and is thoroughly enjoying her new role.
Mrs. Sheehan enjoys teaching ALL Grade Groups. She really believes that
everyone can achieve well in English if they try their very best.
Warning!
Mrs. Sheehan has a reputation for being very kind and good but also...
VERY strict!!
