Our current topic ...

LET'S MOVE IT!

Year One will be looking at the forces of pushing and pulling, finding out about toys in the past and exploring how sound is produced and how we can change it.

 They will:-

· Know the effects of push and pull.

· Find out and describe the movement of familiar things (eg change direction).

· Use push and pull to change the shape of an object, make an object move. or change the direction of an object.

· Use push and pull to sort objects into groups.

· Predict what might happen if they change something and know why they are trying to find out things.

· Talk about what they see and what they have done.

· Find out about the past by talking about events that happened in the past.

· Ask and answer questions about the past.

· Learn that sounds get fainter when they travel away from the source.

· Learn that there are many kinds of sounds and sources of sound.

· Talk about what they can hear.

· Draw pictures of what they hear.

At home you may want to discuss with your child:

Why does a football change direction when you kick it?

What toys did your parents play with?

Are they different from yours?

How do we know that something is old?

How do we know something is modern?

How do we make a sound quieter?
