However, please study your verbs and vocabulary for your final this weekend. Thursday, May 21: Please ask a companero de clase for notes about all the grammar points that will be included on your final exam. Wednesday, May 20: Please see me for your final exam study guide. Today we focused on recalling the train and airplane vocabulary words. Homework: Create a study guide with your vocabulary words - Spanish on one side, English on the other - that complies all vocabulary words on one sheet of paper. Tuesday, May 19: 5th and 6th periods: Senior final. Please see me for make-up. Juniors: Please see me for a yellow packet on "Speaking Spanish like a Native". Write a one page story in Spanish using as many vocabulary words from the packet as possible. Monday, May 18: 7th period: Senior final. Please see me for make-up. All other periods: we completed in class activities. If you have an excused absence, you are excused from these activities. Friday, May 15: Fiesta! No make-up work. Thursday, May 14: 5th and 6th periods only: Presentations of plays. If you were absent, please write a one paragraph summary of the story in Spanish. Homework: Bring something to share for the fiesta tomorrow!! Wednesday, May 13: Please practice your script for the play presentation tomorrow. Make sure you bring your assigned props and costumes. Tuesday, May 12: We are creating plays based on the short story that we just finished reading. If you were absent, you are responsible for talking with your group and participating in the play. Plays will be presented on Thursday. See me for a worksheet that outlines the play requirements. Monday, May 11: Please finish reading the short story. Homework: continue your picture diagram which should include 1) a picture that represents the designated lines in the story and 2) one sentence in Spanish to describe the picture for each box. Box 9: lines 26-28; box 10: lines 28-31; box 11: lines 31-33; box 12: lines 33-35. Friday, May 8: Please read lines 15-25 in the short story. Homework: continue your picture diagram which should include 1) a picture and 2) one sentence in Spanish to describe the picture for each box. Box 5: lines 15-18; box 6: lines 18-19; box 7: lines 19-22; box 8: lines 22-25. Thursday, May 7: We reviewed the main ideas of lines 1-14 of the short story. Please divide one sheet of copy paper into six even boxes. For each box, draw a picture representing the following lines of the short story and write one sentence in Spanish to describe the picture. Box 1: lines 1-5; box 2: lines 5-9; box 3: 9-12; box 4: lines 12-14. Wednesday, May 6: Please see me for a short story that we began reading titled "La continuidad de los parques". Read through line 14 and write a one paragraph summary in English. Tuesday, May 5: If you have an excused absence, please make up your por and para test Wednesday or Thursday after school in room 224. No homework. Monday, May 4: Please study for your quiz on por and para for tomorrow. You will need to be able to choose between por and para in Spanish sentences and know all of the categories for por and para (ex. destination, purpose, deadline, ect.) Homework: 1) study, 2) dibujos animados worksheet using por twice and para twice. Friday, May 1: Due to the junior/senior assembly for prom, there is no make up work if you had an excused absence. Thursday, April 30: Skits for the use of por were presented. If you were absent during presentations, you are responsible for writing a short poem in English describing the different reasons to use por. Homework: Finish the last page on the por vs. para green packet. Wednesday, April 29: Read pages 186-187 in your textbook about "El amor en las artes". Answer questions 1-4 on page 187 in Spanish. Next, read the 2 poems on pages 192- 193 ("Poema no. 15" and "Homenaje a los padres chicanos") and answer questions 1-5 on page 193 in Spanish. Tuesday, April 28: We reviewed por and para in sentences. Please study the different reasons to use por and para. Students then created skits about the reasons to use por. If you have an excused absence, you are excused from this activity. Monday, April 27: We reviewed the answers to the "por" homework. Please see me if you have any questions. Homework: complete II-2-5 in the packet. Friday, April 24: We reviewed the answers to the "para" homework. Please see me if you have any questions. We filled in the "por" side of the yellow worksheet to complete your study guide. There will be a test on por vs. para next Friday. Homework: Complete II-2-3 and II-2-4 in your green packet. Also, please bring your progress report back signed for points on Monday. Thursday, April 23: We did several in-class activities to review the uses for "para". If you have an excued absence, you are excused from these activities. Wednesday, April 22: We began a unit on Por vs. Para. Please see me for a green handout, a yellow worksheet on the reasons to use para, and a green workbook activity handout. Read the front and back of the first page of the green handout. Use the green handout to fill in notes for the "para" side of the yellow worksheet. Finally complete ejercicios II-2-1 and II-2-1 in the green workbook activity handout. Tuesday, April 21: Please study for your vocabulary quiz. The quiz will cover the immigration vocabulary. Monday, April 20: Debate on immigration. If you were absent, you need to write a one page essay on your debate position in Spanish. Please cite your sources. NO CREDIT will be given if your paper appears to be translated online. Friday, April 17: Students received a worksheet to help them prepare for the debate on Monday. If you were absent, you are still responsible for coming to class prepared to debate. Don't forget to look up specific facts for the debate and bring your signed petition. Thursday, April 16: Please see me for a reading about current events in Mexico. Answer the questions in full sentences in Spanish. Our debate has been posponed until Monday. Wednesday, April 15: Students were given their debate groups and were given time to work on their ideas for the debate. Each group needs to create a petition that follows their group's debate position. Please see me for your debate group and then speak with your group about the petition requirements. Tuesday, April 14: Please use your immigration vocabulary and your knowledge about immigration from Monday's reading to write a letter to your senator about your opinion on immigration. The letter needs to be written in Spanish and should be one page in length. Begin the letter with "Estimado Senador". Address the following questions in your letter: What is your opinion about the current border immigration situation? What do you suggest as a solution to the problem? Why would your solution be beneficial? Why is your solution better than other options? What steps do you want the U.S. government to take to implement your solution? Monday, April 13: Please complete your movie questions from "la misma luna" for tarea. The last two essay questions need to be written in Spanish. Please see me for a reading packet about immigration. Complete the questions in Spanish. Finally, please see me for a handout on the new immigration vocabulary. Friday, April 3: We finished watching the movie "La misma luna". the questions. Students will be given 5 minutes of class time after Spring Break to finish answering the questions. No homework over Spring Break! Thursday, April 2: We continued watching the movie on immigration "La misma luna". Please answer the corresponding questions in your packet for homework. Wednesday, April 1: Students turned in their short story projects. If you have an excused absence, please turn in your story ASAP. We began watching the movie "La misma luna". Please see me for a worksheet that accompanies the pelicula. Tuesday, March 31: Students were given work time to finish their short stories. Your short story is due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Monday, March 30: We reviewed more vocabulary on traveling. If you had an excused absence, you are excused from these activities. Afterwards, students were given time to work on their cuentos para ninos project. Remember, these short stories are due on Wednesday. Friday, March 27: Oral vocabulary quiz on the airplane/airport vocabulary. If you have an excused absence, please make this up next Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday after school in room 224. After taking the quiz, students were given time to work on their cuentos para ninos project. Thursday, March 26: We practiced our vocabulary for our oral vocabulary quiz tomorrow. Please make sure that you study! Afterwards, students were given time to work on their cuentos para ninos project. Wednesday, March 25: Teacher planning day. No school for students. Tuesday, March 24: We reviewed the airplane/airport vocabulary. You will have an oral vocabulary quiz on Friday. Please arrive well prepared to talk about the vocabulary out loud for a quiz grade. Also, we began our children's story project. You will need to write an adventure story of a character's journey traveling through an airport to arrive at a destination. This project will be due next Wednesday. Monday, March 23: We reviewed airplane vocabulary. On Friday, you will have an oral quiz where you will need to talk 20 seconds on a random picture about the airport. Also, see me for a map of the airport and airplane. Please label all of your vocabulary on these two maps. Friday, March 20: Continuation of presentations. Thursday, March 19: We began our presentations. If you were scheduled to present and you were absent, I will need to see a signed note for your absence. Wednesday, March 18: Please write a one page short story in Spanish using your airplane vocabulary. The story line should be about a character going through all the different stages of an airport, including: checking baggage, going through security, waiting for their airplane, boarding the plane, finding their seat, and claiming their luggage. Tuesday, March 17: We practiced yesterday's vocabulary with vocab skits. If you have an excused absence, you are excused from this activity. We recieved new vocabulary (see me for a pink sheet of airplane vocabulary) and organized it according to the order in which you will need it if you were traveling in an airport (complete the back of the sheet). Monday, March 16: You will have a 2 minute oral presentation on Thursday about any country in the world that you would like to visit. Please include interesting details about what you would like to see/visit in this country in your presentation. You will need a poster with pictures and will be only allowed one notecard for notes. No reading will be allowed. Second, please see me for a worksheet on airport vocabulary. Friday, March 13: In class debate in Spanish on bullfighting. If you were absent this day, you need to write a one page paper in Spanish about your position on bullfighting including your supporting arguments. Thursday, March 12: Students found out what team they are on for the bullfighting debate that will take place tomorrow. Each person is responsible for talking 2 times during the debate and no English will be allowed. Please come prepared with a visual and an opening and closing argument. Wednesday, March 11: Vimos una pelicula en espanol para una actividad de escuchar. Tuesday, March 10: No class due to FCAT testing. Monday, March 9: We presented our skits in Spanish for a grade. Please make up your quiz on Thursday if you were absent. Also, we began a cultural project on the "corridas de toros". Please see me for a worksheet and complete #2 on the back. Friday, March 6: Test on subjunctive. Please make up your test next Monday or Tuesday after school in room 224. We also began writing skits in Spanish that we will be presenting on Monday. Please work with a companero de clase on the following situation: you have given all of your chores to your younger brother or sister. Tell him/her what he/she needs to do by using 4 sentences in the subjunctive and 2 sentences with commands. Thursday, March 5: We reviewed all the subjunctive verbs for our subjunctive test tomorrow. Please study all the different verb forms including regular, irregular, irregular yo forms, stem changing verbs and spelling change verbs. Wednesday, March 4: We reviewed the spelling change verbs of the subjunctive. Please study these for our test on Friday. Also, see me for a form with the spelling change verbs to make yourself a study guide. Finally, see me for a half sheet worksheet on all the verbs of the subjunctive to be completed for homework. Tuesday, March 3: Please see me for a handout on spelling change verbs in the subjunctive. Complete the worksheet on the back for points. These verbs have spelling changes to preserve the original sound of the infinitive. They will appear on your subjunctive test on Friday. Monday, March 2: We reviewed the subjunctive irregulars. Make sure you study these for our test on Friday. Friday, February 27: Quiz on the subjunctive regulars, irregular yo forms, and stem-changing verbs. We started learning about the 6 irregular verbs of the subjunctive. See me for a handout and complete the worksheet for points. Also, see me for a worksheet titled "tiras de peliculas". Thursday, February 26: Please write 5 different sentences using the subjunctive about school rules that you recommend to be changed. Present these sentences for a speaking grade in front of the class. Finally, study for your quiz tomorrow on the subjunctive. Included are regular verbs, irregular yo form verbs, and stem- changing verbs. Wednesday, February 25: We reviewed the homework and the ideas on how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the subjunctive. Afterwards, we played several review games about these verbs. Tuesday, February 24: We reviewed how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the subjunctive. Please see me for a 1/2 sheet worksheet to do as homework. Monday, February 23: Tests were passed back and we reviewed the answers. Also, we learned how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the subjunctive. Please see me for #6 of the subjunctive packet and complete the worksheet for homework. Friday, February 20: We reviewed the regular conjugations of the subjunctive. Please see me to check out a workbook and complete pages 105 and 106. Finally, create a bumper sticker using the subjunctive. For example: Es necesario que no comas carne. Thursday, February 19: Please see me for a copy of a story that we read in class. Please complete the questions on the back in Spanish. Wednesday, February 18: Students who are attending the King and Queen of Spain field trip please be advised of the following changes: 1) We will be meeting at the bus ramp at 9:15 am. Please be prompt! 2) You need to bring a sack lunch to eat. See you tomorrow! Tuesday, February 17: We reviewed the subjunctive and learned how to conjugate regular verbs in the subjunctive. Please see me for a handout about how to conjugate in the subjunctive. On the back, there is a worksheet that you need to complete for for homework. Monday, February 16: We discussed the King and Queen of Spain packet and learned about the Royal Family for our field trip on Thursday. We also started learning about the subjuntive. Please see me for a paper explaining what the subjunctive is and a worksheet with a venn diagram to be completed for homework. Friday, February 13: We went to the library to find answers to questions about the King and Queen of Spain. Please see me for a copy of the questions. If you did not finish the activity in class, please finish the questions for homework. Thursday, February 12: Garcia Lorca poem "La guitarra". Please see me for a copy of the poem. Make a list of unknown words and then answer the questions on the back for later discussion. Wednesday, February 11: Test over green packet, yellow "se" packet, commands, and future. Make sure you study the irregulars. Please make up your test after school next MOnday or Tuesday in room 224a. Tuesday, February 10: Today was the test day but because of a delayed schedule, the test has been postponed until tomorrow. Monday, February 9: We took a practice quiz on the green chapter 3 packet. Several of these questions will appear on your test tomorrow. Other units that will appear on your test include the different meanings for the pronoun "se", the future tense (study the irregulars!) and the commands (study the irregulars!). Friday, February 6: We reivewed the answers for the questions that were assigned for homework last night. Don't forget you have a test over these questions and several grammatical points next Tuesday. Thursday, February 5: We reviewed answers for questions that were assigned for yesterday's homework and played a review game to help remember them. Please complete the rest of the multiple choice questions in the packet for homework tonight. Wednesday, February 4: We reviewed answers for the first section of our review packet and did several activities to help understand the questions. For homework, please comlete page 2 (#s 22-25 only), page 3 (all questions), and page 4 (#s 21- 27). Tuesday, February 3: Please begin studying all the vocabulary on page 150 of your book. Also see me for a Subject Area Exam review packet on chapter 3. Complete questions 1- 21 on pages 1 and 2 of the packet for homework. Monday, February 2: Field trip forms for the field trip to see the King and Queen of Spain were passed back. Turn yours in as soon as possible, only 45 students will be accepted. We also took notes about how to say "I wonder" in Spanish. Finally, see me to check out a workbook to complete pages 189-192. Friday, January 30: We watched a video on the foods of Spain. If you have an excused absence, you are excused from today's activities. Thursday, January 29: We learned how to construct the future tense. Use the infinitive and then add on certain endings. Please get these notes from a companero de clase, including the 13 irregulars. Finally, see me for a future worksheet. Wednesday, January 28: Amazing Race scavenger hunt in Spanish! Tuesday, January 27: We did several activities to prepare for our "Amazing Race" scavenger hunt. Come to school tomorrow ready to think fast in Spanish and bring your dictionary! Monday, January 26: We reviewed the answers to the "se" packets and collected them for points. We did several other in class activities to review the concept. Make sure you understand the ideas about the different meanings of "se". Friday, January 23: Extra credit projects were due. Quiz on commands. Please make up your quiz after school next Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Also, see me for a packet about the pronoun "se". Complete the packet and turn it in. Thursday, January 22: Please study your mandatos for a quiz tomorrow. This includes the irregular commands as well. See me for a workbook and complete pages 91 and 92. Finally, get notes from a companero de clase about the direct object pronouns and how to attach them to commands. Wednesday, January 21: We practiced making informal commands. Please see me for a small pink worksheet on commands. Don't forget that your extra credit is due on Friday. Tuesday, January 20: We spent time in class correcting errors from our train stories. We also learned the informal commands. These are formed by using the 3rd person singular of the present tense of the verb. There are only a few irregulars which you can find by getting notes from a friend. Friday, January 16: Vocabulary quiz. If you were absent, please make up your quiz before next Thursday after school in room 224a. Thursday, January 15: We reviewed for the vocabulary quiz on the train vocabulary and answered questions about the poem "arte poetico". Please see me for a copy of the questions. Wednesday, January 14: Students received new vocabulary. Please get this vocabulary from a companero de clase. Your next vocabulary quiz will be on Friday. Also, we began questions about the poem "Arte poetico". Students will have time on Thursday to continue working on the questions. Tuesday, January 13: We began discussing the poem "arte poetica". Please make a list of all the words you do not understand and try to give an English definition. We completed the train presentations. Finally write a stort story on the following prompt: "Escribe un cuento sobre un/a chico/a que quiere comprar un billete de tren pero esta perdido". Monday, January 12: We finished presentations for those who were absent last Friday. If you still need to present, bring your notecards and prop to class tomorrow. We started train presentations with partners. See me for a green worksheet titled "bocadillos". You need to say at least 6 sentences in your presentation where you are a lost tourist asking for help with the train system. Friday, January 9: A extra credit opportunity was presented to the class. Please see me for a paper with the details. The extra credit will be due on Jan 23. Also, presentations were today. If you were absent, you will present first thing on Monday. Thursday, January 8: Please see me for a copy of the train station map with new vocabulary. Please translate the vocabulary into English and label the map with the words. We also continued our discussion of the Spanish train station. Finally, remember that you need to practice your presentation for tomorrow. Wednesday, January 7: Please see me for a worksheet on train vocabulary and a map of the Madrid metro. Have a companero de clase help you with the different colors for the Madrid metro map. Tuesday, January 6: Please think of one event that happened over Winter Break and create a one minute presentation about the details of the event in Spanish. Your presentation will be in front of the class on Friday. It needs to include and introduction, details, and a conclusion. Also, you must have a visual aid/prop. Please practice!
