2009-2010 marks my eighteenth year in the classroom. I began my teaching
career in 1992 at Leon High School in Tallahassee, teaching a full schedule
of Drama and Stagecraft classes. In 2000, I taught Theatre and Theatre
Production at Monacan High School in Richmond, Virginia. After moving back
to my hometown of Pensacola in 2001, I taught numerous subjects at Pensacola
High School such as Debate, Drama, Stagecraft, Yearbook, Newspaper, Speech,
and IB 9th grade English. In the fall of 2004, I finally made the transition
to my alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School, where I have taught
English I, II, and TV Production I.
I have two terrific kids, Hannah and Ben, and I am committed to supporting
their growth through the PTA programs at Cordova Park Elementary and Workman
Middle School, as well as with the children and youth programs at First
United Methodist Church.
I have always had a passion for the arts. Whether I was dancing, singing,
acting, or pretending, I have always had a vivid imagination where stories
and pictures come alive. My mission for my students is to inspire them to
create a "movie of the mind," and experience the beauty I find in
literature and language. Books are not boring; books are windows through
which we experience a life completely outside of ourselves. Every student
is different, but I hope each student develops his or her own life-long
connection with literature while spending 180 days with me.
