I grew up in Miami Beach and graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School.
(For those of you familiar with the "Porky's" movies, they were filmed
at MBSH!) I received a B.A. Degree in Political Science from Eckerd College
in St. Petersburg, and a J.D. Degree (law) from the University of Florida.
Recently I attended the University of Toledo (in Ohio) for a year, where I
took science and teaching classes.
I've worked in many different capacities over the years, but mostly in
management positions in the hospitality industry.
I have been married to Janet for 25 years this September. We met in the US
Army when we were assigned 24 hour guard duty together (not much to do but
talk!) In our quarter century of marriage we have lived in a lot of places
and made a lot of moves, but my favorite was when the army shipped us to West
Germany. Saw a lot of Europe on the cheap! We also have 5 children (no, that
is not a typo!!) Eldest are James and Angela, both of whom have made us
grandparents. They and Norman are all over 18 and have settled in various
places around the county. Two are still at home: Karen is 15 (very soon to be
16), and Mike, who is 13. All five were adopted special needs siblings, so by
now there is NOTHING my students can do or say that I haven't had tried on me
already!
Also, most importantly, we have 2 special people pets. The average person
often mistakes them for dogs, but they're okay with that, since not everyone
can be as clever as they! Tripod is a 3 legged Chow, and Spazzola, a
fun-loving mutt.
The class mission is to make students realize that math doesn't have to be
dull and boring. It can be exciting and fascinating. Without math, man
couldn't have walked on the moon, created cars or airplanes, built the Eiffel
Tower, or even have created the I-Pod, computers, or cell phones!
