7th Grade--Poetry Unit
Overview
The purpose of this unit is to teach students how to appreciate, understand
and write their own original poetry. In this unit, students will apply a
variety of poetry elements and devices after studying and reading a variety
of poems. Once students have learned the five basic key elements of poetry
(form, sound, speaker, figurative language, and imagery), they will then be
able to make connections with a variety of poetry devices and apply them to
their own original pieces.

8th Grade--Biography Research Unit
Overview
A biography is a s story about a person's life written by someone else; it
is written in third-person point-of-view. The purpose of this project is to
allow students to select an inspiring hero/heroine, political figure,
musician, artist etc...that will allow them to acquire "new" knowledge and to
enhance reading skills by focusing on a non-fiction book. At the end of this
project, students will orally present the "new" knowledge they acquired from
the biography book(s) and Internet research by creating a scrapbook.
