Hi, I’m Mr. Fortner. I’ve earned two Bachelor of Science degrees: one from
the University of Florida and the other from the University of South
Florida. I also have a Masters degree from the University of South
Florida. Additionally, I am a graduate of Eckerd College’s alternative
certification program for teachers.
I was a CPA in both public and private practice for ten years until I found
my true passion-- teaching. This is my eigth year at Booker Middle
School and my second year teaching on the Zephyr team.
I believe that with confidence and determination all of my students will be
successful in my class and in their lives. I strive to build these
qualities in my students by giving them the opportunity to experience
success in my classroom. In my class we have many hands-on activities, with
a focus on making the intangible concrete and incorporating real -life
examples of the topics that we are studying.
I expect my students to respect each other, their teachers, and
themselves. I expect them to come to my class with the desire to learn and
to succeed. I expect them to work to their full potential by completing
their class activities and homework assignments without distraction.
Consequently, each student will increase their math knowledge
substantially. By the end of eighth grade my students will be prepared
socially and academically to be successful in High School.
