The 2009-2010 school year marks my twenty fourth year in education,
twenty three of which have been at Booker Middle which coincidently is my
middle school alma mater.
My Career in education began at Mulberry Junior High Scool in
Mulberry,FL soon after I graduated from the University of South Florida
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Although my tenure there lasted only one year, the foundation I received
from working in a small town school created in me a great love for
teaching middle school age children and the realization that as a
teacher I can make a difference in the lives of my students.
Currently I am teaching 7th Grade World Geography on the Lightning
Team. I am looking forward to an enjoyable, knowledge filled year in
which my students and I will cover units on the Americas(North and
South),African-American History, Europe, the Holocaust and Career
Education. To disseminate the information of each unit, develop
teamwork among students and provide reading, writing and reference
skills practice.Students will participate in cooperative learning stations
during class and maintain a Social Studies Notebook in which all
classwork, homework and quiz/test papers are kept in numerical
order. The purpose of the notebook is to teach organizational skills
and provide parents/students with a record of work being completed
and graded.
Honestly I must admit I have the best of both worlds, to work at ones
alma mater and the enjoyment of working with middle school children.
Their energy, enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge and innocence makes
each day interesting, challenging and rewarding. After twenty two years,
teaching is what I truly enjoy and there is no other place i would rather
be than Booker Middle. The best middle school in Sarasota!!
Educational Philosphy:
My personal philosophy is that "all students can be successful".The
first thing I like to do is make each child feel as though they are the most
important person in the classroom. From there develop an atmosphere
where we feel comfortable to take risk, encourage one another upon
successes we make and have some "fun" which is so very key to the
learning process. The creation of our classroom environment is done
through various cooperative learning activities, alternate assesments
methods and hands on activities.
Mission For The Class:
Come to class each day ready to learn, have fun and apply the
knowledge they have learned in other subject areas and in life outside
of school.
